Ohio State splits its four games at the season-opening Paradise Classic
Kennedy Kay got her first win of the season, coming in relief in the fourth inning to strikeout three while allowing no runs over 3.2 innings pitched. Lorin Boutte got the starting nod, going 3.1 innings and scattering seven hits. Offensively, the Buckeyes had seven home runs and hit .347 as a team over the first four games of the season. Five players who had at least eight at-bats hit .400 or better on the weekend, led by Neal (.625, four runs scored), Taylor Cruse (.500, two HRs, three extra base hits) and Parisien (.462, team-high seven RBI). In wins over Army and Wisconsin, Ohio State scored 19 runs and had eight extra base hits
How It Happened
- Wisconsin jumped in front first on a Hannah Conger RBI single that scored two in the second inning.
- The Buckeyes retook the lead in the third on a single by Izzy Neal, followed up by a three-run home run off the bat of Parisien that brought the score to 4-2 in Ohio State's favor.
- The Badgers got back within one in the bottom of the third with an RBI single by Danielle Lucey.
- Ohio State got the run back and then some in the fourth inning, with Sara Tarr scoring a wild pitch and Skylar Limon legging out a triple to score Sami Bewick. Limon later scored on a wild pitch herself. Parisien notched her fourth RBI of the day with a sac fly that gave the Buckeyes an 8-3 lead.
- The Badgers would not go quietly, posting two runs in the fourth inning on a Hannah Conger RBI double and a Hilary Blomberg sac fly, bringing the score to 8-5. Yet the Ohio State defense would allow no further damage, taking the win at that 8-5 mark.
- The Badgers would throw four pitchers, with the starter Berritt Herr getting the loss, allow six hits and six runs.
The Buckeyes return to action Friday in the Bevo Classic, held in Austin, Texas by the defending national champion Texas Longhorns. Ohio State will play a five-game slate over the weekend, facing Northern Illinois, Abeline Christian and Syracuse, alongside two scheduled matchups against the hosting Longhorns.
