Tyack nets gamewinner
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Kate Tyack's fourth goal of the day lifted the Ohio State women's lacrosse team to an 11-10 win in double overtime at Louisville Tuesday afternoon. The Buckeyes are now 1-1 on the year, with the game opening the season for the Cardinals.
The Short Story
Ohio State led 4-1 after the first quarter and 7-3 at the half. The advantage stretched to five, 10-5, through three quarters but Louisville outscored the Buckeyes 5-0 in the fourth to force overtime. Ohio State outshot Louisville 6-0 in the first overtime but was unable to find the back of the cage. Kate Tyack's fourth goal of the day in the final minute of the second OT period clinched the Buckeye win.
Tyack had a team-best four goals in the win, with Zoe Coleman notching a hat trick and Camryn Callaghan recording three assists. Maddy Paz posted a three-point day, with a goal and two assists. Jocelyn Torres made 12 saves in the Buckeye cage. Ohio State recorded 18 draw controls, led by Maeve Simonds with five.

- Ohio State hits the road to play at Cincinnati Monday, followed by a game at defending NCAA champion North Carolina Feb. 20.
- Ohio State will then return home for a three-game homestand, welcoming Detroit Mercy (Feb. 27), Robert Morris (March 1) and Vanderbilt (March 7).

- Louisville notched the first goal of the third quarter with 12:26 on the clock for a two-goal Buckeye advantage. Callaghan found Coleman for her third goal of the game with 9:56 left in the second quarter, pushing the Ohio State lead to 5-2.
- At 4:56 the Cards tallied but Maddy Paz set up back-to-back Kate Tyack goals, with the second on a fast break, in the final 3:42 for a 7-3 Ohio State advantage at the half.
- Ohio State outscored Louisville 3-2 in the third quarter for a 10-5 game through 45 minutes.
- Annie Hargraves converted a free position shot for Ohio State at 12:02 and Paz scored on a breakaway after a turnover on a clear at 9:53 for a 9-3 lead.
- The Cards ended the Buckeyes' four-goal run at 7:32, answered with a backhand bounce shot by Tyack for a hat trick at 5:06.
- Louisville notched the final goal of the third quarter at 2:02.
- In the fourth, Louisville shut out the Buckeyes and scored five times to deadlock the game.
- Buckeye goalie Jocelyn Torres had a clutch save with 20 seconds remaining in regulation. A clear set up a last Ohio State chance, but the Buckeye shot after a timeout went wide.
- Louisville had the ball first in overtime and the Buckeye defense held, forcing a turnover. The Buckeyes had two possessions, but were unable to net the gamewinner.
- In the second OT, Torres made a save, with the Louisville goalie making a stop on the other side.
- The Buckeyes' Lindsey McCulloch forced a turnover and Tyack notched the gamewinner with 48 seconds left in the period.
- Ohio State outshot Louisville, 39-31, in the game, including putting 23 on cage.
- Torres had 12 stops for Ohio State and the Cards' goalie made 16 saves.
- Ohio State was outstanding on the draw, notching 18-of-26, including 11-of-12 in the first half. Maeve Simonds was first for the Buckeyes with five draw controls and Delaney Harlan had three.
- McCulloch led the Buckeyes with three ground balls and Hargraves had two.
- Audrey Schomer caused two turnovers to lead Ohio State.
Buckeye This and That
- Tyack also scored the overtime winner against Cincinnati last season and has five career gamewinning goals.
- Tyack now has seven career games with four or more goals. She had a career-high 15 shots in the win. She is on eight-game goal and point streaks (18g, 21p). This year, she leads the Buckeyes with six goals and is second with eight points.
- Ohio State is 9-4 all-time against Louisville, with a 4-1 mark in the last five games. The 2014 matchup also went to double overtime, a win by the Cards, and the Buckeyes won in overtime in 2022.
- Coleman recorded her sixth game with at least three goals.
- The three assists were a career best for Callaghan. She now has 195 career points (161g, 34a). She has a point in each of her last 17 games, with a 42-11-53 line in the stretch. Callaghan is first for Ohio State with five assists and nine points.
