“I have tremendous confidence in their commitment to uphold what our Buckeye Lacrosse family stands for.” - head coach Nick Myers
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Taji Flynn, Brad Sharp and Bobby Van Buren will captain the Ohio State men's lacrosse team for the 2027 season, head coach Nick Myers announced Wednesday.
"I'm proud to announce our three captains, leaders who've earned respect through hard work, toughness and heart." Myers said. "On and off the field, they set the standard we strive for every day, leading by example, supporting their teammates and embodying what this program stands for. They have earned the trust of their peers and our coaching staff, and I have tremendous confidence in their commitment to uphold what our Buckeye Lacrosse family stands for."
This year Ohio State has two multi-time captains in Van Buren and Flynn and are joined by Sharp who is in his second year in the program.
Captain Bobby Van Buren
What it means: "It's always an honor to be recognized as a captain for such an incredible program. I'm excited for the opportunity to help lead this team to our best one last time, and I believe we have the right players and staff to do so."
Van Buren, a three-time captain, missed all of last season due to injury. He was the 2025 William C. Schmeisser Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Often drawing the top matchup of the game, the Wingate, N.C. native helped Ohio State hold opponents to 10 or fewer goals in 11 of 17 games in 2025. He finished the 2025 season with 24 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers. He earned First Team All-America status, First Team All-Big Ten honors and a Tewarraton Award nomination. He also is a five-time OSU Scholar-Athlete, four-time Academic All-Big Ten and 2026 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
Captain Taji Flynn
What it means: "I am blessed beyond words and honored for being entrusted with the ability to lead this team for another year by my teammates and coaches. It is a privilege in our program that comes with a major responsibility, and I plan to do everything in my power to support and guide this family toward accomplishing major things this upcoming season."
Flynn, a defender from Roswell, Ga. and two-time captain, is a leader for the Buckeyes not just on the field, but off the field as well. Flynn is a four-time Mark Bergey Service Award winner and has completed over 100 hours of community service during his time as a Buckeye. He also previously served as the president of Ohio State's Student-Athlete Advisory Council. On the field, Flynn has been a key piece to the Buckeyes winning back-to-back Big Ten regular season titles. He also is a five-time OSU Scholar-Athlete, four-time Academic All-Big Ten and two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
Captain Brad Sharp
What it means: "Being named a captain of this team is an incredible honor, and I'm really grateful for the trust my teammates and coaches have placed in me. Since coming to Ohio State, I've seen firsthand how special this group is and what it means to be a Buckeye. I'm excited for the opportunity to lead this group and help us accomplish what we know we're capable of."
Sharp, an Inside Lacrosse All-American honorable mention in 2026 and Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. native, helped lead the Buckeyes to a 2026 Big Ten Regular Season title in his first season with the team after transferring in from Yale. He tallied eight points with three goals and five assists in five games before a season ending injury made him miss the second half of the season.
