No. 10 Buckeyes Win at Air Force, 14-9

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 10 Ohio State men's lacrosse team earned its first road win of the season with a 14-9 victory over Air Force Saturday afternoon from Falcon Stadium at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
The Short Story
Ohio State's balanced offense scored seven times in each half and was led by Garrett Haas and Alex Marinier with a team-high six points on the day. Haas recorded a career-high five assists while Marinier tied with Khalif Hocker for a team-high three goals.
The Buckeye faceoff unit of Matt Mayfield, Jack Oldman and Sean Magtoto combined to win 18 of 27 faceoffs on the day. Mayfield was 9-3 for the Buckeyes and Oldman added seven wins. Mayfield led the team with eight ground balls.
Defensively, Caleb Fyock made a season-high 11 saves for his fourth win of the season. The Buckeyes contained the Falcons to a season-low 35 shots and allowed just four goals in the first 45 minutes of the game.

How it Happened
- Ohio State's defense set the tone early forcing two shot clock violations by Air Force on its first two possessions.
- The Buckeyes took the lead at 9:44 with a man-up goal from Jackson Birtwistle and doubled the lead at 6:12 with a goal from Jackson Walsh. Both goals were assisted by Garrett Haas.
- Air Force scored on its next possession, but Birtwistle and Logan Soelberg scored within a minute of each other to bring the Buckeye advantage to three goals.
- The Falcons tallied a goal with 12 seconds to play in the opening frame as Ohio State took a 4-2 lead after the first.
- The Buckeye defensive effort held Air Force scoreless in the second quarter with Caleb Fyock making three saves. Matt Mayfield won all four face offs in the quarter as the team dominated possession in the frame.
- Ohio State had a 7-2 lead into halftime with two goals from Khalif Hocker and one by Alex Marinier in the second quarter.
- Hocker tallied a natural hat trick, scoring the last two goals of the second and first of the third quarter.
- Air Force ended the Buckeyes' four-goal scoring run at 11:10 in the third, but Mariner went on to score twice before the Falcons were able to find the back of the net again with 56 seconds to play in the quarter.
- Ohio State took its largest lead of the day with a goal from Haas with nine seconds on the clock in the third to put Ohio State ahead, 11-4.
- The Buckeyes and Falcons went back-and-forth in the fourth quarter for the final 14-9 result in favor of Ohio State. Jake Struck, Jack Deliberti and Griffin Liedel scored in the final frame.
- Jack Allen played in his fourth game of the year, making two saves in seven minutes of work.
- Haas finished the game with a career-high five assists and six points. He leads the team with 18 points on the year.
- Five Buckeyes recorded multiple points in the road win –Marinier (6), Haas (6), Hocker (3), Soelberg (3) and Birtwistle (2).
- Mayfield's eight ground balls in the game tie his career high.
- Liedel tallied his first career goal on a 60-yard shot for the team's final goal of the game.
- Saturday's win marked the fifth in as many seasons for the Buckeyes over Air Force. Ohio State is now 23-12 in the all-time series.
