Buckeyes Head to ITA All-American Championships

Perry and Chavez in singles main draw
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Four members of the Ohio State women's tennis team will travel to Cary, N.C., for the ITA All-American Championships. The tournament, which includes singles and doubles, begins with prequalifying Saturday and Sunday. Qualifying rounds will be Monday and Tuesday, with the main draw set for Wednesday through Sunday.

Audrey Spencer and Nao Nishino are the No. 3 seed in the doubles prequalifying draw and start play at 3:30 p.m. Saturday against a duo from Kansas. Spencer and Nishino are currently in the singles qualifying draw and Teah Chavez and Luciana Perry are in the doubles qualifying bracket. Chavez and Perry have already secured spots in the singles main draw.

The All-American Championships are the first event of the year where players can earn a berth into the NCAA Championships, which will be held this fall. Ten singles players (eight main draw quarterfinalists and two feed-in consolation finalists) and four doubles teams (four main draw semifinalists) will earn a spot. At the All-American Championships last season, Perry was in the main draw for singles and joined with Sydni Ratliff in the doubles main draw. Perry reached the singles consolation Round of 16 and the duo picked up a win in doubles consolation. Chavez and Spencer were in the prequalifying draw. Chavez posted two wins and Spencer won her opening contest. Spencer and Shelly Bereznyak paired up in prequalifying doubles.

The Buckeyes will travel to Champaign, Ill., for the ITA Midwest Regional Championships Oct. 16-19. Luciana Perry is the tournament's defending singles champion.

In the Rankings
- Luciana Perry started the season ranked a career-best No.5 in singles. She has been in the Top 10 since December 2024.Â
- Teah Chavez begins the year junior season No. 11, a personal best after finishing last season No. 18.
- The tandem of Perry and Chavez kicked off the year No. 29 and was ranked as high as No. 10 last season (April 1).
- Perry is the third Buckeye to be ranked in the Top 5, joining Francesca Di Lorenzo and Irina Cantos Siemers. All-time, eight Buckeyes have been in the singles Top 20.Â
- Nao Nishino is a career-high No. 60 in singles to start the season and Audrey Spencer enters the year at No. 65.
