COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women's golf head coach Lisa Strom has signed a four-year contract extension, putting her at the helm of the Buckeye program through 2029.
"The People. The Tradition. The Excellence. At Ohio State, it's always about the people," Strom said. "Being in Columbus and coaching my alma mater is a dream come true. I'm grateful to Ross Bjork, Dan Cloran, and everyone who supports our program for believing in me, our staff, and our vision of developing young women on and off the golf course while competing for championships and helping them chase their dreams. It's a privilege to lead this remarkable group of Buckeyes, and I know the best is yet to come. Go Bucks!"
After a successful Ohio State career as a student-athlete, competing professionally in the LPGA, a stint as an Ohio State assistant and head-coaching opportunities at Texas State and Kent State, Strom returned to Columbus to become the women's head golf coach on July 2, 2021.
After missing postseason play prior to her first season, Strom has led the Buckeyes to the NCAA Tournament in each of her four seasons, including a spot at the final site this past May. The program has seven tournament titles over the past four years and has set numerous program records. The Buckeyes have also finished in the Top 3 at the Big Ten Tournament three of the last four years under Strom and finished last year with its highest end of the year ranking in over a decade. Individually, Strom has recruited at a high level and has been instrumental in the development of All-Americans Caley McGinty and Kary Hollenbaugh.
In her first season as head coach of the Buckeyes in 2022, Strom led Ohio State back to NCAA postseason competition, to a third-place finish in the Big Ten Championship and the team title in the 2022 Lady Buckeye Invitational. Ohio State finished among the Top 9 in seven of 10 tournaments in 2021-22, including the last four of the spring season.
In her second season at the helm, Strom led the Buckeyes to NCAA Regionals, a third-place finish at the Big Ten Championships and a pair of team titles. The Buckeyes finished in every regular season tournament and set eight program records.
During the 2023-24 season, Strom guided the Buckeyes to team titles at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational and the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational. Hollenbaugh claimed the individual title at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational for her first collegiate win and Caley McGinty became the first Buckeye to win the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational since 2012.
This past year was one for the record books, with the Buckeyes advancing to the NCAA Championship finals for the first time since 2018. They set five program records and claimed a pair of tournament victories. Hollenbaugh had an All-American season, tying the program record for single season wins with four. The team finished the season ranked No. 14, the team's highest end-of-season ranking since 2014.
Strom was a member of the Ohio State women's golf team from 1995-00 and then served as an assistant coach from 2011-16 following her professional playing days.
