COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's golf team has earned the No. 5 seed for the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional, which was announced on the NCAA Selection Show Wednesday afternoon.
The regional will be contested at the University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor on May 11-13. In regional play, six 54-hole regional competitions will be played to determine the participants in the championship finals. The low five teams and the top individual not on those teams will advance to the final site. The NCAA Championships will be held at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. May 22-27.
Ohio State has earned NCAA Regional berths in all five seasons under head coach Lisa Strom. Last year, the Buckeyes hosted a regional at the Scarlet Course and finished third to advance to the finals.
The Buckeyes are playing their best golf of the season at the right time. They finished the regular season by winning the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational and then finished runner-up at the Big Ten Championship last weekend in California. Sophomore Nellie Ong has finished in second place in both of the last two events and leads the team with three Top 5 finishes and a 72.89 scoring average.
The Buckeyes have gone head-to-head with seven of the other 11 teams in the Ann Arbor Regional already this season.
