COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team (11-31, 3-19 Big Ten) was defeated by Michigan (28-17, 12-10 Big Ten), 23-1, in seven innings on Saturday. The Buckeyes and Wolverines were supposed to play a doubleheader but, due to heavy rain, game two was postponed. The teams will wrap up their series with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Game Recap

The Wolverines plated two runs in the top of the second inning to take the lead, 2-0.
With one out in the bottom of the third inning, Sal Mineo hit a single to the shortstop. Then, with two outs, Trey Lipsey hit a single to the second baseman to put two runners on, but both were stranded.
In the top of the fourth inning, Michigan scored 16 runs to get ahead of the Buckeyes, 18-0.
Michigan added three more runs in the top of the fifth inning to extend its lead to 21, 21-0.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Maddix Simpson doubled to right center, but was left on base.
The Wolverines scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 23-0 lead.
Lipsey drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning, Matthew Graveline hit a single to center field. Tyler Pettorini reached on a fielder's choice, advancing Lipsey to third. With one out, Lee Ellis drew a walk to load the bases. Mason Eckelman reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Lipsey to put the Buckeyes on the board.
In the top of the seventh inning, Michigan scored one on a sacrifice fly to take a 23-1 lead.
Simpson drew a walk and Mineo singled to right field to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning, however they were left stranded, and the Wolverines took the series-opener, 23-1.

Buckeyes by the Numbers

Mineo led the Buckeyes in hits with two.
Drew Erdmann (0-7) took the loss on the mound. He struck out four and gave up five runs on five hits in 3.1 innings pitched.
