Ohio State advances to NCAA second round
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 4 seed Ohio State women's tennis team defeated the University at Buffalo, 4-0, in the first round of the NCAA tournament at the Auer Tennis Complex in Columbus, Ohio, Friday. The Buckeyes, now 22-3 on the year, move to the second round where they will face Notre Dame at 4 p.m. Saturday for a spot in the Super Regionals.

With a 6-3 win on court three, the duo of Sydni Ratliff and Dani Schoenly secured the first doubles victory. The Buckeyes earned the doubles point when No. 22-ranked Teah Chavez and Luciana Perry won their match, 6-2.

Only a few games into singles, the match was suspended for an hour and 40 minutes because of a weather delay with lightning in the area. Once play resumed, Chavez, Audrey Spencer and Shelly Bereznyak won on their courts for a 4-0 Buckeye victory.

The Schedule Ahead
- Ohio State will take on Notre Dame in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at 4 p.m. Saturday in Columbus. Admisison and parking are free. The match is scheduled to be played outdoors in the Auer Tennis Complex but will be moved inside the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in the event of inclement weather.
- The winner of the Columbus site will advance to a single-elimination super regional against the winner of the regional hosted by No. 13 seed LSU, played at the highest remaining seed May 9.
- The final three rounds of the tournament will be held May 15-18 at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
- The senior duo of Dani Schoenly and Sydni Ratliff worked for a 6-3 win on court three to begin doubles play.
- The No. 22-ranked duo of Teah Chavez and Luciana Perry paired up for a 6-2 victory on court one to clinch the doubles point and 1-0 lead for the Buckeyes.
- The match was paused shortly into singles because of lightning in the area. After an hour and 40 minute delay, the teams resumed play and the Buckeyes quickly secured a first set win on five of six courts.
- After winning the first set, 6-4, on court one, Chavez won six games in a row to take the second set, 6-1, and the match, bringing the Buckeyes to a 2-0 lead.
- Audrey Spencer prevailed in her match, 6-3, 6-1, on court five, giving Ohio State a 3-0 advantage.
- Senior Shelly Bereznyak clinched the match for the Buckeyes after she won 6-1, 6-2 on court five.
- When play was suspended, Perry and Ratliff were up in their second sets, each a game away from winning their matches. Schoenly was up in her second set after dropping the first.
