No. 3 Buckeyes Cap Weekend with 4-0 Sweep of USC
4/6/2025 2:38:00 PM | Men's Tennis
COLUMBUS, Ohio – After grinding through a pair of 4-3 wins on the road last weekend, No. 3 Ohio State returned home to notch a pair of sweeps this weekend. The Buckeyes took down USC 4-0 in under two hours on Sunday to move to 20-2 on the year.
This is the 24th consecutive season in which Ohio State has notched 20 or more victories, all of them coming under director of tennis Ty Tucker. Prior to Tucker taking over, the program had just six 20-win seasons since 1912.
The win also gives the Buckeyes an 8-7 lead in the all-time series with USC as this was the first meeting as conference opponents.
USC had entered the match on a three-match win streak, but the Buckeyes jumped out early and made quick work of the Trojans.
Doubles
- Much like Friday night, the Buckeyes dominated courts two and three to claim the doubles points.
- Aidan Kim and Will Jansen capped a solid weekend with a 6-3 win over Volodymyr Iakubenko and Oscar Weightman for the first doubles win.
- The second win came on court three from Alex Fuchs and Alexander Bernard. They rolled to a 6-2 win over Matteo Morazzi and Nathan Trouve and the Buckeyes went up 1-0.
Singles
- Needing just three wins, the Buckeyes took five of the six opening sets and were well on their way.
- The first win came from Bernard on court two as he rolled past Nathan Trouve 6-4, 6-2. It was his third win on the weekend coupled with his two doubles victories
- The third point for the Buckeyes came from Brandon Carpico on court six. He topped Connor Church 6-4, 6-1 for his fifth-consecutive singles win and his 11th on the season.
- The clinching point was a race between Jack Anthrop and Preston Stearns who were playing side-by-side on courts four and five. Anthrop won his first set 6-3 over Karl Lee while Stearns beat Matteo Morazzi 6-0 in the first set. Both players were serving up 5-4 in the second when Morazzi had to take a quick break to fix something in his shoe. That let Anthrop serve out the match and win 6-4. Stearns ended up two points shy of a win.
- Aidan Kim split the first two sets on court one with No. 26 Peter Makk and Will Jansen was up 6-3, 3-3 over Oscar Weightman when the match was halted.

The Buckeyes will hit the road for the final time in the regular season as they will be at Illinois next Friday night and then at Northwestern on Sunday afternoon.
