COLUMBUS, Ohio – Brandon Carpico and Nikita Filin clinched a spot in the US Open main draw after coming out victorious in two-straight sets in the 2026 American Collegiate Player Wildcard Playoff Finals on Thursday at the USTA National Campus' Collegiate Center in Orlando, Florida.
Carpico and Filin will have a spot in September at the US Open after remaining undefeated in the wildcard playoffs. The Buckeye duo entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed and didn't drop a set, outsourcing their two opponents 24-8 in games played.
The last Ohio State doubles team to qualify for the US Open was Robert Cash and JJ Tracy back in 2024 after winning the NCAA Doubles Titles, Cash and Tracy are now ranked in the Top 30 of the latest ATP doubles rankings.
On Wednesday, the Ohio State pair faced off against Northwestern's Greyson Casey and Carter Pate ending in a two-set, 6-3, 6-2 win.
Thursday's finale was a rematch against Indiana's Michael Andre and Matteo Antonescu after the Hoosier pair defeated Filin and Carpico, 6-3, in the dual season earlier this year. This time the Buckeye duo came for revenge in dominant fashion, winning 6-2, 6-1 in a best-of-three set match.
The Buckeye pair got out to a quick 3-0 start in the first set before Andre and Antonescu closed it at 3-2, the Buckeye pair then proceeded to win three-consecutive games to clinch the first set, 6-3. With a trip to the US Open on the line, Filin and Carpico rode the momentum of the first set to a strong 5-1 second set, while up 30-love, the lightning siren rang, causing a delay for over an hour. When play returned, the Buckeye duo defeated the Indiana pair in the in-progress game and clinched a spot in the US Open Main draw.
Carpico and Filin automatically qualified for the 2026 American Collegiate Wildcard Playoffs by making the finals of the 2025 NCAA Doubles Championship last fall, earning them All-America status in doubles.
The duo was ranked as high as No. 1 in the ITA weekly rankings in the 2026 season. The pair finished with an overall record of 39-6 with a 22-3 record in duals play. Playing primarily at the No. 1 doubles spot, they put together a 15-2 record at the top of Ohio State's doubles lineup. Overall, the pair was 17-3 against nationally-ranked opponents in 2025-26.
