No. 4 Ohio State Beats Illinois Again 4-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Playing outside for the first time this season, No. 4 Ohio State beat Illinois on Friday night 4-1.
This was the ninth consecutive win over Illinois, and it lifts the Buckeyes to 21-2 on the year and 10-0 in Big Ten play.
A win on Sunday at Northwestern would give the Buckeyes a share of their 19th consecutive Big Ten title and their 22nd title overall.
The win was also the second win over Illinois this season as the Buckeyes also won 4-0 on March 5 in Columbus. Ohio State is also 36-14 against Illinois since Ty Tucker took over in 2000.
Doubles
- The Buckeyes held the upper hand in doubles throughout the point.
- Aidan Kim and Will Jansen rolled to a 6-1 win on court one over Kenta Miyoshi and Tyler Bowers.
- The clinching point came on court three as Alexander Bernard and Alex Fuchs beat Zach Viiala and Max Mroz 6-4 for their third consecutive win.
Singles
- Freshman Brandon Carpico continued his great play as he put the second point on the board with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mroz on court six.
- Illinois cut the lead in half as Miyoshi turned the table on Kim, winning 6-3, 6-2 on court one. Kim whooped Miyoshi last month in Columbus 6-0, 6-0.
- Jack Anthrop won his 12th consecutive match as he bested Jeremy Zhang 6-3, 6-1 on court three.
- The final point came down to Jansen and Nakashima. Jansen won the opening set 6-3 over Viiala but then went to a tiebreaker in the second set. Nakashima beat Mathis Debru 7-2 in a first-set tiebreaker and then rolled to a 6-2 win to clinch the match.
- Bernard lost the first set but to Tyler Bowers but was up a break at 5-3 in the second.

Ohio State will wrap up the regular season road trips with a match at Northwestern on Sunday afternoon. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
