
No. 21 Ohio State Falls In Series Finale at No. 9 UCLA

Buckeyes will look to get back into the win column on Wednesday at Pittsburgh
COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 21 Ohio State dropped a 7-0 decision at No. 9 UCLA on Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles to conclude a two-game conference series between the Bruins and Buckeyes. Ohio State is 30-9-1 on the year with a 6-4 mark in Big Ten play while UCLA improved to 36-5 overall and 9-1 in conference play.
The Buckeyes trailed 1-0 for much of the game, as freshman pitcher Lorin Boutte worked her way through scoreless frames in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings. UCLA, however, got six insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth via a pair of three-run home runs. Boutte's final stat line included 5.2 innings pitched and five strikeouts.
How The Runs Were Scored
- UCLA scored first thanks to three first-inning infield singles, the last of which scored Jessica Clements from third base for a 1-0 Bruins lead.
- The game remained 1-0 deep into the sixth inning; however, UCLA was able to connect on a pair of three-run home runs in the bottom of the sixth to open a 7-0 lead.
Buckeye This and That
- Sophomore catcher Jasmyn Burns finished the three games in her home state this week with five hits in eight at-bats (.625) with three home runs, seven RBI and a 1.750 slugging percentage.
- Ohio State's best scoring chance came in the fifth inning with Kaitlyn Farley led off with a walk, stole second and then advanced to third on a ground out. The final batter of the inning, however, struck out.
- The three games in California this week were a homecoming for nine players on the Ohio State roster. Three of them were in the starting lineup today and a fourth – freshman pitcher Kassandra Gewecke – saw relief action in the sixth inning.
What's Next
With its lone west coast trip of the season complete, the Buckeyes will return to action on Wednesday when it heads to Pittsburg, Pa. to take of the Pitt Panthers at 5 p.m. The game is slated to be streamed live on ESPN+. Ohio State holds a 16-4 advantage in the all-time series against Pitt. The two teams met last season in Columbus; the Buckeyes won, 3-2. Pitt entered action today with a 12-23 overall record and were in the midst of a three-game series at Notre Dame.
