No. 14 Lewis set for Senior Night Battle with Buckeyes Saturday at Covelli

Ohio State won by scores of 25-14, 23-25, 27-25, 25-19.

Stanislaw Chacinski led the Buckeyes with 19 kills while Shane Wetzel added 18. Cole Young contributed 10 kills while Kyle Teune added nine and seven digs. Wetzel led with 10 digs. Â

Setter Daniel Henwood Rodriguez set a career high with 55 assists.

The Buckeyes have now won consecutive home matches against Top 15 teams after defeating No. 10 McKendree, 3-2, March 27.

The last time Ohio State won consecutive home matches against Top 15 teams was in February of 2021 when the unranked Buckeyes knocked off No. 11 Loyola Chicago on consecutive days (Feb. 20-21) at the Covelli Center. Ohio State won the first match against the Ramblers 3-2 and followed up with a 3-0 win the next day.
Set 1 (OSU, 25-14)
The first set started back-and-forth with neither team able to gain more than a two-point lead until three-consecutive kills from Stanislaw Chacinski put the Buckeyes up 6-3. The Cardinals answered, bringing it back to within one until a Shane Wetzel kill ace brought the score to 11-8 Ohio State. A Ball State attack error and another ace from Wetzel gave the Buckeyes a 13-8 lead, forcing the Cardinals into their first timeout. After the break, the Buckeyes kept going and Ball State took another timeout after a Cole Young ace brought the score to 17-10 Ohio State. The Scarlet and Gray then went on a 4-1 run capped by a Chacinski kill to make it 21-11. Another Chacinski kill brought Ohio State to set point and a block from Tyler Tharpe gave the Buckeyes the set 25-14 and a 1-0 lead in the match. Chacinski led the offense with seven kills in the set with Wetzel adding four and a 1.000 hitting percentage.

Set 2 (BSU, 25-23)
The Cardinals scored the first two points of the set, but Ohio State tied it at 2-all after a Kyle Teune kill and a Ball State attack error. The score went back-and-forth until consecutive blocks from Ball State gave the Cardinals a 7-4 lead. The Buckeyes got within reach when a Cardinal service error made it 8-7. A push from the Buckeyes capped with a Teune kill tied it at 11-all. A Wetzel ace gave Ohio State its first lead of the set at 12-11. The Scarlet and Gray trailed 15-14 heading into a media timeout. After the break, Ball State went on a 3-1 run to take its lead to 18-15. The Buckeyes then scored four-consecutive points to tie it at 19-all. Ball State took a timeout and scored after the break, but a Chacinski kill tied it at 20-all. Ohio State took at timeout trailing 22-20 after consecutive points by Ball State. A Teune kill brought the score to 24-22 Cardinals and Ball State took its final timeout. Ohio State survived another set point but a block from Ball State gave the Cardinals the set 25-23 and tied the set at 1-all. Wetzel led the set with four kills and Chacinski added three.

Set 3 (OSU, 27-25)
The third started point-for-point and neither team was able to grasp more than a two-point advantage. A Cardinal service error made it 8-7 Ball State and a kill from Daniel Henwood-Rodriguez tied it at 8-all. A 3-1 run from the Cardinals brought the score to 11-9. Ball State kept going and a Cardinal block put them on top 14-11. Ohio State trailed 15-12 heading into a media timeout. After the break, Ball State took a 17-14 lead following a Buckeye service error. A kill from Chacinksi made it 17-15 Cardinals. Ohio State took its first timeout down 19-15 after a Cardinal block. Back-to-back aces from Henwood-Rodriguez brought the score to 20-19 Ball State before the Cardinals took another timeout. A Chacinski kill tied it at 20-all. The score was tied again at 21-all but a Buckeye service error and a Cardinal kill took the score to 23-21 Ball State and Ohio State took its last timeout. Leading 24-23, Ball State took its final timeout. A Wetzel kill tied it at 24-all. The score was tied again at 25-all, but an ace from Wetzel and a block from Young gave Ohio State the set 27-25 and a 2-1 lead in the match. Chacinski added six kills in the set.

Set 4 (OSU, 25-19)
The Buckeyes jumped to a 5-1 lead to start the fourth after two team aces, kills from Teune and Young and a Cardinal error. Ohio State's offense kept going, taking an 8-4 lead thanks to a kill from Teune. Back-to-back attack errors from Ball State gave the Scarlet and Gray a 12-6 lead, forcing the Cardinals into their first timeout. After the huddle, back-to-back Cardinal attack errors made it 15-8. A kill from Young put the Buckeyes on top 16-9. The Cardinals went on a 4-2 run, and a Wetzel kill made the score 18-13. Another kill from Chacinski brought Ohio State's advantage to 20-15, and Ball State took another timeout. After the break, the Cardinals closed the gap to 20-17 until another Chacinski kill lifted the score to 21-17. A Ball State attacking error made it 23-19, and back-to-back Wetzel kills gave Ohio State the set 25-19 and the match 3-1.
