
Buckeyes Win Big Against Rutgers, 16-8

Game Recap
- Rutgers plated two runs in the top of the first inning to take the early lead, 2-0.
- In the bottom of the first inning, Matthew Graveline drew a walk, then was plated by a Tyler Pettorini double to right center. Pettorini advanced to third on a balk. Will Carpenter was up next, and he doubled to left field to send Pettorini home. Ryan Miller drew a walk and Maddix Simpson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Sal Mineo hit a single to the pitcher, which scored Miller and Carpenter to give the Buckeyes the lead, 4-2.
- In the top of the second inning, the Scarlet Knights scored two runs to even the score, 4-4.
- The Buckeyes added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning, after a Carpenter double to left center and a Miller 343-foot home run to reclaim the lead, 6-4.
- Rutgers scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning to level the score once again, 6-6.
- Reggie Bussey led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a single to left field. Trey Lipsey followed with a single to right field, advancing Bussey to third to put runners on the corners. Graveline reached on a fielder's choice, which scored Bussey and advanced Lipsey to second. Pettorini and Eckelman were both were hit by pitches to send Lipsey home. Graveline scored on a sacrifice fly from Carpenter and groundout from Miller scored Pettorini to give the lead back to the Buckeyes, 10-6
- In the bottom of the fifth inning, Lipsey hit a double to left field, then stole third and scored on a Rutgers throwing error to extend the Buckeye lead to five, 11-6.
- The Scarlet Knights scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut the Buckeye lead to three, 11-8.
- In the bottom of the eighth inning, Pettorini led off with a single to first then stole second. Eckelman hit a single to short, which plated Pettorini. With one out, Miller hit a single to right field and Eckelman advanced to third. Simpson reached on an error by the Rutgers shortstop, scoring Eckelman. With two outs, Bussey drew a walk to load the bases. Lipsey was hit by a pitch, plating Miller. Graveline hit a double to left field, scoring Bussey and Simpson, to extend the Buckeye lead to eight, 16-8.
- The Buckeyes held the Scarlet Knights off in the top of the ninth inning to seal the 16-8 victory.
- Carpenter, Lipsey, Pettorini and Miller had two hits each.
- Graveline and Miller had a team-high three RBIs each.
- Douglas Bauer (2-1) earned the win on the mound. He struck out three and allowed two runs on four hits in 3.2 innings pitched.
- Hunter Shaw earned his first save of the season. He struck out one and did not give up any runs or hits in 2.0 innings tossed.
- The rubber match between the Buckeyes and the Scarlet Knights is on Sunday, April 27 at 12:00 p.m.
