Ohio State advances to Friday’s semifinals
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 9-ranked Ohio State women's tennis team downed Illinois, 4-0, Thursday evening in the quarterfinal round of the Big Ten Tournament in Ojai, Calif. The Buckeyes, now 19-3 on the year, captured their second win over the Illini (14-12) this season.

The victory moves the Buckeyes on to the tournament semifinals. Ohio State will face the winner of the quarterfinal match between No. 3 seed Washington and No. 6 USC at 6 p.m. Friday.

The No. 2 seed Buckeyes started the match by securing the doubles point against the No. 7 seed Illini. Ohio State's No. 19-ranked duo of Teah Chavez and Luciana Perry won the first match. The tandem of Sydni Ratliff and Dani Schoenly won the final four games to secure their match and the doubles point for the Buckeyes.

Ratliff and Perry continued their success with singles wins to bring Ohio State to a 3-0 lead. Shelly Bereznyak closed out her match to clinch the 4-0 shutout for the Buckeyes.

How it Happened
- The No. 19-ranked duo of Teah Chavez and Luciana Perry posted the first win of the tournament when they won their match, 6-2, on court one.
- The senior tandem of Sydni Ratliff and Dani Schoenly was down 3-5 on court three before winning four games in a row to secure the match win, 7-5, and the doubles point for Ohio State.
- No. 94 Ratliff continued her momentum in singles with a win on court three. After shutting out Illinois' Violeta Martinez, 6-0 in the first set, Ratliff  rallied to win four games in a row and take the second set, 7-5, bringing the Buckeyes to a 2-0 lead.
- No. 10 Perry prevailed, 6-4, 6-4, on court two to secure a 3-0 advantage for Ohio State.
- The clinching point came from Shelly Bereznyak on court five when she won her match, 6-3, 6-2. With the second set at two games each, Bereznyak claimed the final four games to win the match and secure the Buckeye victory.
- When play was suspended, No. 30 Chavez was up 3-1 in the third set after losing the first and winning the second. Nao Nishino was in a second-set tiebreaker after winning the first set 6-0. No. 99 Audrey Spencer was on serve in the second set after winning the first.
