Ohio State will take on No. 3 Michigan for title Saturday
COLUMBUS, Ohio – With a 4-1 semifinal win over No. 18 Washington, the No. 9-ranked Ohio State women's tennis team earned a spot in the Big Ten Tournament championship match. The No. 2 seed Buckeyes will take on No. 1 seed and No. 3-ranked Michigan in the final at 8 p.m. ET Saturday. The 2025 Big Ten Tournament is being held at Libby Park in Ojai, Calif. The Buckeyes are now 20-3 on the year, with the No. 3 seed Huskies 20-4.

This is the fifth year in a row the Buckeyes will play in the B1G Tournament final, with all five against the Wolverines, and it is the program's ninth appearance in the championship match all-time. Ohio State has three league tournament titles, winning the championship in 2016, '17 and '21.

In the semifinals, the Buckeyes earned the doubles point. The tandem of sophomores Teah Chavez and Luciana Perry rolled to a 6-1 win and the tandem of seniors Sydni Ratliff and Dani Schoenly clinched the point with a tiebreaker victory.

Ohio State moved to a 3-0 lead with straight set wins from Ratliff and Shelly Bereznyak. After Washington won on court six for a 3-1 match, the remaining three matches all went to a third set. Perry clinched the team victory, rallying for a court two win.

How it Happened
- Ohio State captured the doubles point with wins on courts one and three.
- The No. 19-ranked duo of Teah Chavez and Luciana Perry dropped just one game on court one against the Huskies' No. 57-ranked team of Reece Carter and Alexia Jacobs.
- On court three, the senior tandem of Sydni Ratliff and Dani Schoenly prevailed in a tiebreaker to clinch the doubles point. The Buckeye duo saved match point serving 5-6 and then won the first six points in the tiebreaker for a 7-6 (1) victory.
- On court two, the duo of Audrey Spencer and Nao Nishino was on serve 6-5 when Ohio State claimed the doubles point.
- No. 94-ranked Ratliff put the Buckeyes up 2-0, as she defeated Alexia Jacobs, 6-0, 6-3, on court three.
- On court five, Shelly Bereznyak notched a straight-set win of her own, as she won 6-1, 6-3 against Sophie Luescher.
- Washington got on the board with a straight-set win by Carina Syrtveit over No. 99 Audrey Spencer.
- The remaining three matches all went to a third set.
- On courts one and two, Chavez and Perry both dropped their first sets but rallied to force a third.
- No. 10-ranked Perry went on to clinch the team win. On court two, she fell in the first set to No. 113 Reece Carter, 6-4. In the second set, the Buckeye won the final four games to take the set, 6-2, breaking in the final game, and she opened set three by winning the first three games. Carter drew to 3-2 and Perry took control from there en route to a 6-2 win, sealing the Buckeye victory.
- On court one, No 30-ranked Chavez dropped her first set, 6-4, to Erika Matsuda. Chavez jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the second set and won, 6-3, to extend the match. They were one game into the third set when play was suspended.
- On court four, Nao Nishino took her first set against McKenna Koenig, 6-3, winning the final three games. In set two, Koenig broke to take the set, 6-4, and she was up 2-0 early in the third.
Buckeye This and That
- In singles, Perry leads the Buckeyes with a 30-7 ledger overall and she has a 16-3 dual mark. Bereznyak is 15-3 in dual matches and 26-7 on the year and Ratliff has a 13-3 dual mark and a 20-9 record in 2024-25.
- Perry and Chavez have notched a 14-5 mark in dual matches this spring, with Ratliff and Schoenly 3-4. Â Â Â
- This is the fourth year in a row, and the sixth time overall under head coach Melissa Schaub, the Buckeyes have reached the 20-win mark.
- Ohio State is 0-2 vs. Michigan this season, with a 4-3 loss in a Big Ten match in Ann Arbor March 15 and a 4-1 loss at home in a nonconference match April 16.
- The Big Ten semifinal was the first between Ohio State and Washington as conference foes. The teams did not face off in the regular season.
