COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team (8-23, 2-12 Big Ten) dropped game two in its series against Minnesota (15-17, 4-10 Big Ten), 9-2, on Saturday.

Game Recap

With two outs in the bottom of the first inning, Trey Lipsey walked and Matthew Graveline singled through the left side, but they were both stranded.
Minnesota took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning after a two-run home run.
In the bottom of the second with two outs, Reggie Bussey had a stand-up triple, but he was left on base.
The Golden Gophers added a run on am RBI double in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead.
Ryan Miller hit a two-out single in the bottom of the fifth frame.
Minnesota added three more runs in the top of the sixth, taking a 6-0 lead following a two-RBI single and a score on a wild pitch.
Tyler Pettorini led off with a single to right field in the bottom of the sixth. He was out on the next play as Lipsey reached on a fielder's choice. With two outs, Mason Eckelman singled to right field and Lipsey advanced to third to put runners on the corners, but they were left there.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Maddix Simpson led off with a single to right field. He advanced to third on back-to-back groundouts. Lee Ellis sent Simpson home on an infield single to put the Buckeyes on the board and cut the Minnesota lead to five, 6-1.
The Golden Gophers got two runs across in the top of the eighth to take a seven-run lead, 8-1, and added a final run in the top of the ninth on an RBI single to get ahead, 9-1.
With one out on the board in the bottom of the ninth inning, Simpson doubled to right center field. With two outs, pinch hitter Alonzo Paul Jr. reached base on a Minnesota error to put two runners on for the Buckeyes. Simpson scored on a single up the middle from Ellis to leave the Buckeyes trailing by seven, 9-2, but the Golden Gophers got the final out to earn the win.

Simpson and Ellis led the Buckeyes in hits with two each.
Ellis had two RBIs.
Gavin Kuzniewski (3-3) took the loss on the mound. He struck out two and gave up three runs on three hits in 5.0 innings pitched.
