Buckeyes get four more home runs, increases season total to 46
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Four more home runs and another run-rule victory set up a major showdown on Monday afternoon for the Ohio State softball team, which defeated Oakland 10-0 in five innings and now turns its attention to Monday's game vs. No. 1 Texas.
On Sunday, the Buckeyes scored in every inning that they batted and saw four home runs leave Buckeye Field, bringing their season total to 46 long balls in 22 games. The win was Ohio State's fourth consecutive run-rule victory and improved its record to 17-4-1 on the season. Oakland is 5-11.
How It Happened
- Senior Reagan Milliken continued her hot hitting with a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning. Milliken is batting .500 this weekend with a team-leading nine RBI. She's added five extra base hits (three doubles, two home runs).
- The game opened up in the second inning thanks to a couple of home runs – the first came off the bat of Jasmyn Burns, who connected on a solo shot to right field. Later in the inning, Hadley Parisien saw one leave to right center field. It was the fourth consecutive game that she's homered in and also raised her batting average to .714 this weekend (four games) to go along with a 2.429 slugging percentage.
- The Buckeyes scored three times in the bottom of the third inning, highlighted a monster home run from Morgan Frye that nearly hit the top of the Schumaker Complex in left center field.
- The game got into run rule territory in the fourth inning thanks to a Sami Bewick home run and Reagan Milliken's RBI double.
- In the circle, freshman Lorin Boutte (9-2) did not allow a hit over three innings and struck out four batters. Kassandra Gewecke pitched the fourth inning while Kennedy Kay close out the game with a scoreless frame in the fifth.
