
Buckeyes Down Valpo, 15-4, in Game Two of Series

Game Recap
- Trey Lipsey led off with a single in the bottom of the first inning, followed by an infield single from Lee Ellis. A single down the third base line from Tyler Pettorini loaded the bases. Mason Eckelman sent Lipsey home on a sac fly to give the Buckeyes an early 1-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the second, Will Carpenter drew a walk to lead things off. Maddix Simpson singled to left field next; it was his first collegiate hit. A sac bunt from Reggie Bussey advanced both the runners. Carpenter scored on an RBI groundout from Lipsey and Simpson scored on a Valpo error to put Ohio State ahead, 3-0.
- Matthew Graveline drew a walk to lead off the home half of the third inning for the Buckeyes. With two outs on the board, Carpenter stepped up to the plate and hit his first career home run, sending it 406 feet out of the park to drive in two runs and extend the Ohio State lead, 5-0.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Lipsey walked and stole second. A double into center field from Ellis plated Lipsey and put the Buckeyes in the lead, 6-0, over the Beacons.
- Valpo got on the board in the top of the seventh frame, cutting the Buckeye lead to two, 6-4, after a three-run home run and a solo home run.
- Pettorini led off with a double in the bottom of the seventh and then swiped the bag at third. A sac fly from Graveline sent Pettorini home and put Ohio State up by three, 7-4. Eckelman doubled to left center and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Nick Giamarusti walked to put two runners on. Eckelman scored on a wild pitch and, after stealing third, Giamarusti scored on a fielder's choice to put Ohio State ahead by five, 9-4. Simpson, who reached base on the fielder's choice, would score on a wild pitch and Ellis sent in two runs on a triple to give the Buckeyes a commanding 12-4 lead over the Beacons.
- In the bottom of the eighth, Graveline led off with a double to right field, Eckelman walked and Giamarusti singled to left field to load the bases. A sac fly from Simpson sent Graveline home. Bussey was walked to load the bases again and Lipsey singled to right field, sending the game-winning runs home as Ohio State defeated Valpo, 15-4.
- Ellis led the Buckeyes with a career-high three hits and was just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle.
- Lipsey and Ellis led the team in RBIs with three each.
- Lipsey and Pettorini each had two hits.
- Carpenter and Simpson each batted in two runs, which is a career-high for both Buckeyes.
- Chase Herrell (1-0) earned the win on the mound. He struck out one and did not allow any runs in 5.0 innings pitched.
- Luke Carrell fanned four in 2.0 innings of relief to close out the game. He did not allow any hits or runs.
- The Buckeyes wrap up their series against Valpo on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. and host Eastern Michigan on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. before opening Big Ten play next weekend at Indiana.
