Ohio State Drops Series Opener to No. 10 Oregon

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team (6-16, 0-7 Big Ten) was shutout by No. 10 Oregon (20-5, 8-2 Big Ten), 7-0, in the teams' series opener at Bill Davis Stadium on Friday.

- The Ducks got on the board in the top of the first, taking a 1-0 lead over the Buckeyes after an RBI double.
- In the bottom of the first, Ryan Miller and Trey Lipsey were both hit by pitches. After the Ducks turned a double play, Tyler Pettorini doubled to right field for Ohio State's first hit and advanced Lipsey to third, but they were both stranded.
- Oregon got three across in the top of the fourth after back-to-back home runs and an RBI single to take a 4-0 lead over Ohio State.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Matthew Graveline led off with a single to left field. Reggie Bussey then reached base on an Oregon error. A sac bunt from Nick Giamarusti advanced both runners into scoring position, but they were left on base.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Lipsey singled and Pettorini was walked, but the Buckeyes were not able to capitalize.
- With two outs on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning, Giamarusti reached base after being hit by a pitch. Marc Stephens reached on an Oregon error and Giamarusti moved up to third, but they were stranded.
- Oregon hit another home run to lead off the eighth to take a 5-0 lead.
- Pettorini had another hit in the bottom of the eighth.
- A two-run home run for the Ducks in the top of the ninth inning put them ahead of the Buckeyes, 7-0.
- The Buckeyes were retired in order in the bottom of the ninth and fell to Oregon, 7-0.
- Pettorini led the Buckeyes in hits with two.
- Drew Erdmann (0-2) took the loss. He struck out a career-high four and gave up four runs on seven hits in 4.0 innings pitched.
- Sahil Patel tossed 3.0 innings of relief. He fanned a career-high five and allowed one run on four hits.
- Due to incoming inclement weather on Sunday, the Buckeyes and Ducks will play a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29. Game two will begin approximately 55 minutes after the start of game one.
