
Ohio State Defeats Cornell, 4-2, to Advance to Frozen Four Final

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team advanced to its fourth consecutive national championship game with a hard-fought, 4-2, win Friday over Cornell in the first semifinal game of the Frozen Four semifinal at Ridder Arena.
Joy Dunne scored two third period goals, one at the 16:23 mark to break a 2-all tie and the other at the 12:38 mark for a two-goal advantage that the Big Red was not able to overcome as it did earlier in the game. Dunne also had an assist for a three-point game. Makenna Webster scored the first goal of the night to help Ohio State build a 2-0 first period lead and she also assisted on each of Dunne's third period goals for a three-point evening herself. Brooke Disher's first period goal gave Ohio State a 2-0 lead.
Cornell fought back to tie the score with two second period goals just a minute apart.
For the game, Ohio State had 42 shots, with Dunne having nine of those, while Cornell had 29. Both teams were 0-3 on the power play.
Ohio State goalie Amanda Thiele made 27 saves and Cornell netminder Annelies Bergmann made 35.
1st Period
Ohio State took a 1-0 lead just 2:24 into the game. An turnover by Cornell at its blue line presented Webster and Dunne with a two-on-none opportunity. Webster passed to Dunne skating down the middle of the ice and Cornell's Annelies Bergmann made the save but the rebound caromed to Webster who buried it for her 12th goal of the season. Four minutes later Brooke Disher launched a drive and scored her third goal of the season from the faceoff circle to the right of Bergmann for a 2-0 lead. Jenna Buglioni and Sloane Matthews assisted on the play. Ohio State had 15 shots on goal to six for Cornell. Goalie Amanda Thiele made two terrific saves from point blank range inside of 1:24 to play to preserve the two-goal lead.
2nd Period
Back came the Big Red in the second period. Lily Delianedis, while falling down, cut the Buckeyes' lead in half with a goal from the left of Thiele and just over a minute later Kaitlin Jockims skated around an Ohio State defender and scored from the identical spot to Thiele's left for a 2-all tie. Both teams had 17 shots in the period with Cornell improving on its first period total with 13 more in the second.
3rd Period
Webster, Mira Jungaker and Joy Dunne connected for a goal at the 16:23 mark to regain the lead for Ohio State. Webster took a pass from Jungaker, skated around the zone and dropped a pass off to Dunne who buried the puck top right for her 27th goal of the season and a 3-2 lead. Four minutes later Dunne and Webster struck again for a 4-2 lead with Dunne scoring No. 28 from in front of a crowded goal with Joselyn Amos and Webster each getting an assist.

The Buckeyes will play the winner of the second semifinal game between No. 1 seed Wisconsin and No. 4 Minnesota in Sunday's national title game. The game is set for 4 p.m. and will be televised on ESPNU.
