COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 3 Ohio State returned to the Ty Tucker Tennis Center on Friday night and kept its unblemished Big Ten record intact with a 4-0 sweep of visiting Wisconsin.
The Buckeyes are now 15-2 overall on the year and 4-0 in the Big Ten.
For the sixth consecutive match, the Buckeyes won the doubles point and this time, it was in dominant fashion. That momentum carried right over to singles. The Buckeyes got wins on courts two, three and six and completed the sweep in just an hour and 37 minutes.
Ohio State has now won a remarkable 36-consecutive matches against Wisconsin, the longest streak against any Big Ten opponent. The Buckeyes have only surrendered six points in the last 15 matches with the Badgers.
Doubles
- Aidan Kim and Will Jansen got the first two breaks of the match on court one and raced to a 4-0 lead. After a hold each way, the Buckeye duo broke again to win 6-1.
- The Buckeyes also went up 3-1 with early breaks on both courts two and three. Both matches then held to 5-2 and it turned into a race to six.
- Brandon Carpico and reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Week Nikita Filin would win the race, winning 6-2. Carpico ended it with an overhead forehand.
- Bryce Nakashima and Alex Fuchs were close! They were matching Carpico and Filin point for point and had a deuce point for the match when the doubles point was secured.
Singles
- The Buckeyes won five of the six first sets and just like doubles, it turned into a race to see who could finish their matches.
- Will Jansen was the first done on court three. He blitzed Tomas Zlatohlavek 6-2, 6-1 for his first Big Ten singles win.
- Bryce Nakashima made quick work of Sachiv Kumar on court six 6-0, 6-1 to put the third point on the board.
- The final point of singles looked very similar to the final point of doubles.
- Alexander Bernard and Aidan Kim were playing side-by-side on courts one and two and both were serving for match point at the same time. Kim missed a return, and Bernard won his point at the net to secure the victory.
- Bernard took the opening set from Patrik Meszaros 6-4 and then blanked him 6-0 in the second. Kim won the first set against Michael Minasyan 6-1 and then led 5-3 in the second.
- Jack Anthrop was another 6-0 winner in the first set on court four and then was up 4-3 in the second. Preston Stearns dropped the first set on court five but was up 2-1 in the second set when the match was stopped.
