Ohio State Downs Miami in Midweek Matchup

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team (6-12) defeated the Miami RedHawks (10-10), 14-7, on Tuesday at Bill Davis Stadium.
Game Recap
- The RedHawks got on the board in the top of the first inning after an RBI fielder's choice to take a 1-0 lead over the Buckeyes.
- In the bottom half of the first inning, the Buckeyes loaded the bases after back-to-back singles from Trey Lipsey and Tyler Pettorini and a walk from Matthew Graveline. Mason Eckelman was then hit by a pitcj to score Lipsey. A two-RBI single from Ryan Miller plated Pettorini and Graveline. Nick Giamarusti walked to load the bases again and Reggie Bussey slashed a double into right center field, sending two more runs across. Giamarusti raced home on a wild pitch, and an RBI fielder's choice from Maddix Simpson scored Bussey to give the Buckeyes a 7-1 lead.
- Lee Ellis doubled down the left field line to lead off the bottom of the second for the Buckeyes. With one out, Ellis swiped the bag at third. An infield single from Graveline sent Ellis home to extend the Buckeye lead, 8-1.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Lipsey belted a ball to deep right center field that hit off the wall. Lipsey turned on the jets, and the play became an inside-the-park home run that gave the Buckeyes a commanding 9-1 lead over the RedHawks.
- A bases loaded walk and a sac fly from the RedHawks in the top of the fifth plated two and cut the Ohio State lead to six, 9-3.
- In the bottom of the fifth inning, Bussey sent his first career home run out the park, driving in three runs to put Ohio State ahead by nine, 12-3.
- In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Buckeyes got two more runs across after drawing two straight bases-loaded walks, stretching the lead to 11, 14-3.
- The RedHawks hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh, but the Buckeyes maintained the lead, 14-5.
- Miami hit another two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning but the Buckeyes prevailed, coming away with the 14-7 victory.
- Bussey batted in a career-high six runs.
- Bussey, Lipsey, Pettorini, Eckelman, Graveline and Miller each had two hits.
- Gavin Kuzniewski (3-1) took home the win, pitching 3.0 scoreless innings, while striking out two and giving up just two hits.
- Nik Copenhaver delivered 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. He struck out two.
- Starter Blaine Wynk and Drew Erdmann also each fanned two batters.
- The Buckeyes head to Iowa for a three-game conference series Friday, March 21-Sunday, March 23.
