Taylor Cruse, Sami Bewick and Skylar Limon all hit home runs
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State ensure that its first weekend series of the 2025 season would be a winning one, as the Buckeyes scored nine runs in the first three innings and registered a 12-6 victory over No. 21 Nebraska on Sunday afternoon. The win was Ohio State's second this weekend in a three-game set against the Cornhuskers and upped the Buckeyes' record to 20-6-1. Nebraska is 20-8.
Like they have all season, Ohio State flexed its offensive muscle with three home runs and four extra base hits as part of its 14-hit attack. Taylor Cruse went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI while Sami Bewick also drove in three runs. Pitcher Lorin Boutte pitched four innings of relief work to earn her 10th win of the season.
How It Happened
- Ohio State scored twice in the first inning, twice again in the second and then opened up a big lead with five runs in the bottom of the third inning.
- The biggest hits early in the game were a two-run single from Reagan Milliken in the first inning and a seeing-eye single through the third baseman and shortstop in the second by Jasmyn Burns that scored Cruse.
- Leding 4-3 entering the bottom of the third inning, Ohio State got a three-run home run by Cruse to make the score 7-3 and Bewick would follow two batters later with a two-run shot and a 9-3 Buckeye lead.
- The third and final Ohio State home run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning and it was provided by Limon. The hit scored Morgan Frye, who walked to lead off the inning.
- The final inning and a half of the game was played in a steady rain as showers moved into the Columbus area. While Nebraska scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh, Boutte retired Lauren Camenzind on a fly out to right field for the final out of the game.
Buckeye This and That
- Bewick extended her streak of reaching base to a season-high 24 games. It's the third-longest streak in program history in the last 12 years.
- Burns also has a long multi-game on-base streak going as well. She's reached base in 18 consecutive games and in that span in hitting .542 with 20 RBI and a .596 on-base percentage.
- Burns also extended her hitting streak to 13 consecutive games. That's the longest such streak by a Buckeye since Sam Hackenbracht had a 13-game hitting streak in 2022.
- Ohio State scored in the first inning of each game this weekend; overall, the Buckeyes outscored the Cornhuskers 4-0 in the three first innings.
- Parisien swung the hottest bat against Nebraska, collecting seven hits in 11 at-bats this weekend with a .714 on-base percentage and three doubles. She had multiple hits in all three games.
- Ohio State has now won each of its last three series against Nebraska. Previous series wins came in 2022 and 2023.
- The Buckeyes scored 30 runs this weekend and have reached double digits in runs scored in six of their last nine games. In that span, Ohio State is averaging 9.2 runs per game.
