Buckeyes Fall to Indiana in Series Finale

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Ohio State baseball team (5-12, 0-3 Big Ten) was defeated by Indiana (11-9, 4-2 Big Ten), 14-3, in seven innings in the teams' series finale on Sunday.

- The Hoosiers took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after scoring on back-to-back Buckeye errors.
- In the top of the second, Mason Eckelman and Will Carpenter drew back-to-back walks, but they were stranded on base.
- A two-RBI single, an RBI single and an RBI fielder's choice for the Hoosiers in the bottom of the second extended their lead, 7-0.
- In the top of the fourth, Tyler Pettorini led off with a single through the left side. Matthew Graveline was next up at the dish and he left the yard, hitting a two-run homer 440 feet over the wall in left center to cut the Indiana lead to five, 7-2.
- With one out on the board in the top of the fifth inning, Lee Ellis singled through the left side, and he advanced on a Pettorini groundout. Graveline sent a hard-hit single into left field to score Ellis and put the Buckeyes within four runs of the Hoosiers, 7-3.
- In the bottom of the fifth, the Hoosiers got two across on a double, three on a home run and two more on another home run to extend their lead, 14-3.
- With two outs in the top of the sixth, Alonzo Paul Jr. recorded his first career hit, a long double right into the right field corner.
- In the top of the seventh, Ellis was hit by a pitch to lead things off and he advanced to second base on a wild pitch, but the next three Buckeyes were retired and the Hoosiers came away with the series sweep.
- Graveline and Eckelman led the Buckeyes in hits with two each.
- Graveline batted in all three of Ohio State's runs.
- Jake Michalak (1-2) took the loss on the mound. He struck out five and allowed nine runs, six earned, on seven hits in 4.0 innings pitched.
- Sahil Patel struck out three in a 1.2-inning relief appearance. He gave up two runs on one hit.
- The Buckeyes host Miami (OH) on Tuesday, March 18 at 6:00 p.m. and head to Iowa for a three-game conference series Friday, March 21-Sunday, March 23.
