Game 1: Indiana 12, Ohio State 2 (8 Innings)
Game Recap
- In the top of the second, Mason Eckelman singled up the middle to lead things off. Nick Giamarusti followed him at the plate, and he went yard, giving the Buckeyes the early 2-0 lead over the Hoosiers.
- Indiana got one across in the bottom of the second to cut the Ohio State lead in half, 2-1.
- The Hoosiers took a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the third inning after a two-RBI double and a two-run home run.
- With one out in the top of the fourth, Will Carpenter singled to right field, followed by a double to left field from Marc Stephens. Carpenter, however, was thrown out at home and the Hoosiers got the next two outs to keep the Buckeyes from scoring.
- Another two-run home run from Indiana in the bottom of the fourth extended its lead, 7-2.
- A third two-run homer from the Hoosiers in the fifth inning put them ahead of the Buckeyes, 9-2.
- An RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth put Indiana in the lead by eight runs, 10-2.
- A fourth two-run home run from the Hoosiers in the bottom of the eighth earned them the 12-2 eight-inning run-rule victory.
- Giamarusti led the Buckeyes in hits with two and in RBIs with two.
- Chase Herrell (1-1) took the loss on the mound. He struck out five and gave up nine runs on 10 hits in 4.2 innings pitched.
Game 2: Indiana 8, Ohio State 7 (10 Innings)
Game Recap
- The Buckeyes once again jumped out to an early lead in game two. In the top of the first inning with one runner on, Tyler Pettorini sent his sixth home run of the season out of the park, giving Ohio State a 2-0 lead over Indiana.
- Indiana scored once in the bottom of the first to cut the Buckeye lead in half, 2-1.
- With two outs on the board in the top of the second inning, Reggie Bussey singled to left field and then stole second. A double to right field from Trey Lipsey sent Bussey home to put Ohio State back ahead by two, 3-1. Lee Ellis was next up in the order and he singled. An infield single from Pettorini plated Lipsey and gave Ohio State a three-run lead, 4-1.
- An RBI single from the Hoosiers in the bottom of the second cut the Buckeye lead back to two, 4-2.
- In the top of the fourth with one out, Bussey drew a walk. Another double from Lipsey sent Bussey home and gave the Buckeyes a 5-2 lead.
- With one out in the top of the fifth, Eckelman tripled to right center field. A single from Carpenter sent Eckelman home and put the Buckeyes up by four, 6-2.
- Indiana got one across in the bottom of the sixth, but Ohio State had the lead, 6-3.
- In the top of the seventh inning, Matthew Graveline demolished the ball, sending a solo homer 461 feet out of the park and over the pine trees beyond the center field wall. Graveline's home run gave the Buckeyes a 7-2 lead over the Hoosiers.
- Indiana, however, tied the score, 7-7, in the bottom of the eighth after a two-run home run, an RBI triple and an RBI groundout.
- The Buckeyes and Hoosiers both went down in order in the ninth inning to send the game to extras.
- With one out in the top of the 10th inning, Carpenter reached base on a passed ball, but he was stranded.
- In the bottom of the 10th, the Hoosiers earned the 8-7 victory on a walk-off RBI single.
- Pettorini led the Buckeyes with three hits. Lipsey and Eckelman each had two hits.
- Pettorini batted in a team-high three runs and Lipsey batted in two.
- Ryan Butler fanned a season-high five in a 5.0-inning no-decision. He gave up two runs on two hits.
- Hunter Shaw (1-3) took the loss. He struck out one and allowed two runs on three hits in 2.0 innings tossed.
- The Buckeyes close out their series against Indiana on Sunday, March 16 at 1:00 p.m.
