Buckeyes In a Nutshell
- Ohio State looks to earn its first win of the season after dropping its season-opener against Utah last Saturday. The Buckeyes fell 19-13 to the Utes in game one.
- Sophomore Garrett Haas leads the Buckeyes with five points in one game this year. He tied senior Alex Marinier with a team-high four goals against Utah. Also recording a multi-point game in the season-opener were Ben Mayer (2G, 2A), Griffin Turner (3A) and Ryan Donnery (1G, 1A).
- Turner's three assists vs. the Utes tied for most in the Big Ten and third-most in the country. Haas and Marinier tied for second in the Big Ten in week one goals.
- Cullen Brown caused three turnovers against Utah, a mark that tied for best in the conference and second in the country.
- The Buckeyes start the season 100% on the extra man opportunity. Marinier capitalized on the team's lone EMO against Utah. Ohio State is one of three teams in the country to take advantage of every man-up opportunity in week one of the season.
- The Buckeyes' 14-game regular season campaign this year features eight matchups against 2024 NCAA Tournament teams, including all four Final Four teams. Seven of the team's 2025 opponents are ranked in the preseason USILA Coaches' Poll.
- The 2025 roster is comprised of five graduate students, 13 seniors, seven juniors, 11 sophomores and 11 freshmen. Three countries are represented on the roster - United States, Canada and England - with student-athletes representing fourteen states and two Canadian Provinces.
- Eight of Ohio State's top 10 goal scorers from last season in Alex Marinier, Jack McKenna, Gannon Matthews, Ben Mayer, Ed Shean, Blake Eiland, Dillon Magee and Ari Allen are back.
- At close defense, returning starters include Bobby Van Buren, Cullen Brown and Kyle Foster. Van Buren, a two-time All-Big Ten honoree, returns to the lineup after an injury in 2024 sidelined him for most of the season. The Buckeyes' defensive effort last season held some of the nation's top offenses to season low scoring performances and finished the year top 15 in scoring defense, clearing percentage and caused turnovers per game.
- In goal for the Buckeyes, senior Henry Blake returns after starting, and winning, the season opener vs. Utah last season but was subsequently sidelined due to injury. Sophomore Caleb Fyock, who started 14 of 15 games last season, is also back between the pipes for Ohio State.
- At the faceoff X, sophomore Jack Oldman is the team's leading returner, after going 70-for-135 (.519) in his rookie season.
- Brown, Marinier and Van Buren were named Big Ten Players to Watch ahead of the 2025 season. Marinier led the team in goals (28), man-up goals (4) and points (30). He tallied a point in all but one game last season. Brown started every game for Ohio State last season and ended his sophomore campaign with a career-high 51 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers. Van Buren has started 27 of 33 games in his Ohio State career with 43 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers.
- Ohio State head coach Nick Myers is in his 18th season at the helm of the Buckeyes. His coaching staff is comprised of associate head coach Travis Crane and assistant coaches Justin Tuma and Andrew Vossler.
- Ohio State is 12-1 against Detroit Mercy all-time and is 11-0 at home against the Titans.
- The Buckeyes were Detroit Mercy's opponent in the first game in program history in 2009.
- Last season, Ohio State defeated the Titans, 16-10, in Columbus. Mayer and McKenna recorded hat tricks in the game while Oldman went 17-for-21 at the faceoff X.
- Ohio State hosts nine games at Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium in the 2025 season.
- The team starts with seven straight home contests in the first month of the season, including games against Utah (Feb. 1), Detroit Mercy (Feb. 4), Cleveland State (Feb. 8), Bellarmine (Feb. 11), Air Force (Feb. 15), Virginia (Feb. 22) and Bryant (March 1)
- The Buckeyes' Big Ten home games are against Rutgers (March 29) and Maryland (April 12).
