Andrew Vossler was named Ohio State’s assistant coach in June of 2023. He will work primarily with the faceoff and goalie units.
Vossler returns to Columbus after three seasons as an assistant coach at Colgate. While in Hamilton, he served as the Raider’s first assistant and recruiting coordinator and worked with the faceoff specialists and goalies. Vossler coached Matt LaCombe to a .500 save percentage in the 2023 season and four Patriot League weekly awards. He also guided faceoff man Thomas Colucci to a .571 win percentage in 2022 and to top 15 marks in faceoff win percentage and ground balls per game.
In his first season with the Scarlet and Gray, Vossler helped face-off specialist Justin Inacio earn Big Ten co-Specialist of the Year honors. The sophomore led the conference with a .637 win percentage and had 120 ground balls. As a team, the Buckeyes finished the regular season 10th nationally in face-off win percentage at .619.
In 2020, a season that was shortened to seven games after the global coronavirus outbreak, Vossler played a major role in the success that both Inacio and goalie Josh Kirson experienced. Inacio, who missed the first three games of the season, was winning over 65 percent of his face-offs through four games. And Kirson was the Big Ten’s best statistical goalie, leading the conference in saves (94), saves per game (13.4), save percentage (.584) and goals-against average (10.19).
With Vossler’s help, Jacksonville had a five-win improvement in 2018 and advanced to the program’s first-ever Southern Conference Tournament Championship game. Vossler worked extensively with the long-stick midfielders and short-stick defensive midfielders and mentored all-conference selection Ryan Beville, who was drafted last spring by the MLL’s Florida Launch. Jacksonville finished first in the league – and No. 3 nationally – in face-off win percentage (.701), second in goals-against average (10.34/game) and first in ground balls (33.20/game).
In 2016 and 2017, Vossler served as defensive coordinator and worked with the face-off units at his alma mater, Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. Under Vossler’s guidance, the Tars made program history as the defensive units allowed less than 10 goals per game in back-to-back seasons. Additionally, the team improved its face-off win percentage from .450 to .526 in 2016. Vossler mentored five All-Sunshine State Conference selections, including two first team picks.
Vossler spent the 2015 season as a volunteer assistant coach at Jacksonville and was instrumental in elevating the team’s overall face-off win percentage from .374 to .524. Vossler guided the Dolphins from being ranked 64th to 22nd nationally in face-off win percentage as a team. Individually, Vossler took the team’s top face-off specialist and increased his win percentage from .429 to .548, ranking 21st nationally at the face-off X.
Prior to his time in Duval, Vossler served as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio in 2014. Vossler’s guidance helped the Blue Streaks to a 13-4 record in its inaugural Division III season, capped by an appearance in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Championship game. Seven players earned All-OAC honors as Vossler’s defensive units combined for an OAC-leading 6.85 goals-against average, good for 16th in the nation among DIII teams.
Vossler began his coaching career in 2013 at Division II Adams State in Alamosa, Colorado. As the Grizzlies’ assistant coach and defensive coordinator, Vossler also facilitated and implemented a strength and conditioning program for the team. His efforts aided a pair of Grizzlies to league defensive player of the week honors, as Adams State finish the season nationally ranked in the top three in DII in both caused turnovers per game (2nd) and ground balls per game (third).
A four-year member of the men’s lacrosse team at Rollins from 2009-12, Vossler was a three-time team captain and three-time All-Deep South selection.
A native of Manlius, N.Y., Vossler earned his bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from Rollins in 2012. He is married to the former Jess Hotchkiss, who was a standout on the Jacksonville women’s lacrosse team from 2010-13. They are the parents of two sons, Ezekiel Bronko and Kairos Kolt Vossler.
