Ohio State will face UMBC, Stetson and host Georgia this weekend
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team will wrap up its opening month of the 2025 regular season this weekend when it travels south to Athens, Ga. for the Bulldog Classic on the campus of the University of Georgia. Ohio State is set to face No. 10 Georgia twice, UMBC twice and Stetson in the three-day event.

Basics on the Buckeyes
- After going 4-0 last weekend with wins over Cornell, Siena, North Florida and UCF, Ohio State is 9-3-1 on the season.
- The Buckeyes have been powered by an offense that averaged 8.5 runs per game last weekend and hit 14 home runs. Jasmyn Burns, a sophomore, leads the team with a .459 batting average and is one of three players with four home runs so far this season.
- The seven home runs that Ohio State hit in a 15-0 five-inning win over Cornell to open last weekend was a single-game school record and the most in any game in the NCAA so far this season.
- Ohio State's .331 team batting average is fourth-best among Big Ten teams. Six everyday starters are batting .340 or better.
- The Buckeyes' pitching staff consists of three freshmen and a junior. One of those newcomers, Lorin Boutte, is tops on the team with a 5-2 record, 3.69 earned-run average and 46 strikeouts in 30.1 innings.
- Kennedy Kay, a junior, and Layna Gerhard, a freshman, have each started four games. Kay is 3-1 with two complete games and Gerhard had a career-high 13-strikeout effort vs. Siena last Friday.
Scouting the Competition
- Stetson enters play in Athens this week with a record of 10-6 after going 2-3 last weekend while hosting the Stetson Invitational.
- This will be the fifth matchup between the Buckeyes and Hatters, with Ohio State leading the series 3-1. Their most recent meeting came on February 19th, 2022, at the The Spring Games in Orlando, Fla.
- UMBC is 2-6 this season with wins over East Carolina and Niagara. This will be just the second-ever game between Ohio State and UMBC, with the first coming 10 years ago on Feb. 7, 2015 in Charleston, S.C.
- Georgia is 14-1 on the season and was delt its first setback of 2025 on Wednesday when it dropped a 5-3 decision at Clemson.
- This will be the fifth matchup all-time between Ohio State and Georgia with the most recent coming in 2023. The Buckeyes are 3-1 against the Bulldogs.
Milliken Off to a Hot Start
- Senior Reagan Milliken hit .333 last weekend in four games and upped her season batting average to .325. She leads the team with 17 RBI and is tied for the team lead with four home runs.
- Last weekend, Millken had a two-home run game vs. Cornell and then followed that up with a career-high five RBI in a 7-3 win over UCF. Against the Knights, she had a two-run home run in the first inning and a bases-clearing three-run double in the fourth inning.
