Buckeyes top Stetson, 9-1, and UMBC, 10-2
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State got off to a fast start at this weekend's Bulldog Classic on the campus of the University of Georgia, registering a pair of five-inning run-rule victories over Stetson and UMBC, respectively. The Buckeyes topped the Hatters, 9-1, and then erupted for nine runs in the final three innings of a 10-2 triumph over the Retrievers.
Ohio State, which has now won six games in a row, is 11-3-1 on the season. Stetson is 10-7 overall and UMBC is 2-7.
The Buckeyes' offense on Friday was highlighted by an 18-hit attack that included four home runs and five doubles. Reagan Milliken went 2-for-4 with two home runs and six RBI in the two games while Jasmyn Burns had hits in five of her six at-bats with two doubles and a home run. In the circle, freshman Lorin Boutte did not allow an earned run in five innings vs. Stetson and classmate Layna Gerhard tossed four scoreless innings against UMBC.
How It Happened
- Reagan Milliken, who hit three home runs and had 10 RBI in four games last weekend, continued her hot streak early on Friday with a three-run homer in the top of the first inning versus Stetson.
- Jasmyn Burns followed with a solo shot in the same inning to increase ethe Buckeyes' lead to 4-0 and the Buckeyes tacked on two runs in the fourth inning via a Skylar Limon single and Lottie Landmesser RBI groundout.
- The game ended in the fifth inning after Morgan Frye's two-run double made the score 8-1. Frye, who took third base on a Stetson error, would score on a wild pitch for the 9-1 final.
- Ohio State trailed 2-0 against UMBC but pulled away with a six-run second inning that featured three-run home runs by Milliken and Taylor Cruse.
- The Buckeyes scored three times in the fourth inning on a two-run doubles by Burns and a UMBC error.
Buckeye This and That
