Buckeyes improve to 4-0 on the year
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Led by a 10-point game from Brynn Ammerman, the No. 20 Ohio State women's lacrosse team defeated Akron, 13-4, Wednesday in Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium. The Buckeyes, who shut out the Zips for the final 34:18, improve to 4-0 on the year. Akron is now 3-2.

Two weather delays pushed the start of the game back by nearly 90 minutes. When play got underway, Ohio State took control quickly, scoring twice in the first three minutes and ending the first quarter ahead 5-3. The Buckeyes tallied the first two goals of the second quarter for a 7-3 lead. Akron notched a goal at 4:18, which stood as its last goal of the day. The Buckeyes carried an 8-4 lead into halftime and scored the only goal of the third for a 9-4 advantage. Four Ohio State goals in the last quarter made the final score 13-4.

Brynn Ammerman had a hat trick, seven assists and 10 points for the Buckeyes, tying for fourth in program history for single game assists and points. She was one shy of the program records of 11 points and eight assists, both set three times before. It was the first 10-point game since Liza Hernandez against Detroit Mercy Feb. 10, 2019. The last seven-assist day was by Jennifer Porretto against Canisius March 14, 2015. Ammerman's seven points in the first half tied for sixth in school history and were the most since Hernandez had eight in the game vs. Detroit.

Zoe Coleman also had a hat trick for the Buckeyes vs. Akron and Kate Tyack had three points with two goals and an assist. Kampbell Stone had two goals in the win. The Buckeyes limited the Zips to 19 shots for the game.

The Schedule Ahead
- The Buckeyes will play at Robert Morris at 11 a.m. Saturday before hosting Cincinnati at 3 p.m. March 7 in Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium. Admission and parking are free for all regular season home games.
- The start of the game was delayed by an hour and 23 minutes because of lightning in the area. The first delay was during warmups and the second was during introductions.
- Ohio State scored twice in the first 2:52 of the game. Brynn Ammerman set up Zoe Coleman in front at 13:10 and Kampbell Stone drove the cage and scored unassisted at 12:08.
- Akron got on the board at 8:31 but the Buckeyes responded less than a minute later with a Stone goal set up by Ammerman.
- Back-to-back Ohio State scores, from Ammerman unassisted and by Kate Tyack set up by Ammerman, put the Buckeyes ahead 5-2. The Zips closed the scoring in the quarter with 13 seconds remaining.
- Ammerman set up Coleman at 8:12 and tallied unassisted at 5:35 to move Ohio State's lead to 7-3.
- The Zips stopped the Buckeye run with a free position shot at 4:18 that would end up being their last goal of the day.
- Ammerman found Tyack with 2:54 left and the teams went into halftime with the Buckeyes ahead 8-4.
- The only goal of the third quarter was from Annie Hargraves, off a pass over the net by Ammerman, at 14:11.
- Ohio State closed the game with four goals in the fourth.
- Leah Sax found Coleman in close for her third goal of the day at 13:08.
- Ammerman led Emily Magalotti for her first goal of the season at 8:13 and then converted with the Buckeyes player up, assisted by Tyack, at 7:36.
- Maddie Barhorst closed the scoring at 2:01, driving the net and scoring low.
- Ohio State outshot the Zips, 37-19, and did not allow more than six shots in a quarter.
- Jocelyn Torres started for the Buckeyes in the cage and made eight saves in 56:34. Whitney Robinson closed out the game and did not face a shot on goal. Akron's goalie made five saves.
- The Buckeyes had the edge in ground balls, 22-18, with the Zips ahead in draw controls, 12-9.
- Tyack, Audrey Schoemer and Lilli Sherman each had three ground balls to lead the Scarlet and Gray. Abby Boyle was first for Ohio State with three draw controls.
- The Buckeyes had eight caused turnovers, led by Schoemer and Sherman with two each.
- Ohio State was a perfect 25-for-25 on clears and Akron was 17-for-22.
- Ammerman is on a seven-game point streak (8g, 19a, 27p). Her previous highs for assists (5) and points (6) were set against Akron last season. She also marked her third game with three or more goals. Ammerman has a Buckeye-best 14 assists and 19 points this season.
- Coleman has a point in each of her last 10 games (13g, 16p) and a goal in six straight (13). She and Tyack share the team goal lead with 10 each. It was Coleman's third career game with three or more goals and her second of the season.
- Tyack has 10 multiple-goal games as a Buckeye and has 10 goals in her last three games combined.
- Torres has a 5.83 goals-against average and .635 save percentage this season, making 40 saves.
- Stone recorded her fifth career game with multiple goals and she is third on the squad with seven this year.
