
Buckeyes Defeated by Alabama to Close Out Jax College Baseball Classic

Game Recap
- After two scoreless inning to start the game, the Buckeyes came alive in the third. With two outs on the board, Reggie Bussey singled to right field. Trey Lipsey was up next and he drew a walk. Stepping up to the plate next was Lee Ellis and he went yard, driving in three runs to give Ohio State a 3-0 lead.
- The Buckeyes had a monster fourth inning. Matthew Graveline singled through the right side to lead things off, followed by back-to-back walks for Marc Stephens and Nick Giamarusti to load the bases. Graveline scored on a wild pitch to give the Buckeyes a 4-0 lead. A two-RBI single from Bussey plated Stephens and Giamarusti. Lipsey was walked again to put two runners on and a single to right field from Ellis sent Bussey home to put Ohio State ahead, 7-0. Tyler Pettorini was up next and sent one over the wall in right center to send three more runs across for the Buckeyes and give them a commanding 10-0 lead over the Crimson Tide.
- A three-run home run from Alabama in the bottom of the fourth inning cut the Ohio State lead to seven, 10-3. After the home run, the bases were quickly loaded for Alabama, but Graveline made an unbelievable catch in left field to rob the Crimson Tide of what would have been a grand slam.
- The pitchers battled it out in the next few innings, with the Buckeyes holding off the Crimson Tide until the bottom of the seventh. An RBI single and another three-run home run for Alabama left the Buckeyes ahead by three, 10-7. In the bottom of the eighth, the Crimson Tide cut Ohio State's lead to just one run, 10-9, after a two-RBI double.
- The Buckeyes went down in order in the top of the ninth and in the bottom of the inning, Alabama hit a walk-off three-run home run to win the game, 12-10.
- Ellis and Pettorini led the Buckeyes with two hits each. Ellis' home run was his second of the weekend.
- Ellis had a team-high and career-high four RBIs.
- Pettorini batted in three runs and Bussey batted in two.
- Bussey, Ellis and Lipsey each scored two runs.
- Jake Michalak struck out four and gave up three runs on four hits in a 3.2-inning no-decision.
- Luke Carrell fanned five batters in 2.0 innings out of the bullpen. He allowed seven runs on five hits.
- Nik Copenhaver (0-2) took the loss, allowing one run on one hit.
- Ohio State competes as part of the College Baseball Series at Globe Life Field next weekend, playing games against Auburn, Baylor and Oregon State.
