Ohio State is 9-3-1 on the season
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team is headed home from a weekend trip to Florida with four wins, highlighted on Saturday by a 6-1 triumph over North Florida and a 7-3 victory at UCF. The 4-0 stretch improves the Buckeyes' record to 9-3-1 on the season.
The Short Story
Senior Reagan Milliken was one of the stars of the night at UCF, going 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and three-run bases loaded double. Her five RBI were a career high and added to a stellar overall weekend performance that saw her bat .333 with three home runs, 10 RBI and a 1.000 slugging percentage.
Ohio State never trailed in the game on Saturday night, jumping out to a 2-0 lead on Milliken's first-inning home run and then taking a 3-1 lead after Skylar Limon hit her first career long ball in the top of the second inning. The biggest hit of the night came in the top of the fourth, as Milliken hit a three-run double with the bases loaded to give the Buckeyes a 7-3 advantage.
From there, freshman Lorin Boutte kept the Knights off the scoreboard. She picked up her fifth win of the season, this one in relief, by going 6.0 innings with seven strikeouts and just one walk.
In the first game of the day, Ohio State used solo home runs off the bat of Kami Kortokrax, Jasmyn Burns and Kaitlyn Farley to build a 5-0 lead after three innings. Cadyn Ruffer provided a go-ahead two-run single in the second inning as well, and Ohio State tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning when Farley scored on a wild pitch.
Kennedy Kay went the distance for the second time in a week, pitching a complete game while striking out three and scattering five hits. She improved to 3-1 on the season and has a 1.50 earned run average in her last two winning starts.
