- In the bottom of the third inning, NC State tied the score, 3-3, after a three-run home run.
- In the top of the fifth, with two outs on the board, Lipsey reached base on an NC State error. Lee Ellis stepped up to the plate next and he went yard, sending one 391 feet out of the park to plate two runs and put the Buckeyes back in the lead, 5-3.
- Carpenter led off with a single up the middle in the sixth inning and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Reggie Bussey then singled and advanced on an error, giving Carpenter time to score and give the Buckeyes a three-run lead, 6-3. A single into right field from Matthew Graveline drove Bussey home and put Ohio State ahead of the Wolfpack, 7-3.
- In the seventh and eighth innings, the Buckeyes retired the Wolfpack in order to keep them off the board.
- Lipsey led off with a solo home run to right field in the ninth, extending the Buckeye lead to five runs, 8-3.
