COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the second consecutive match, Ohio State scored in the second overtime as sophomore Anika Poremba nets the game-winner to send the Buckeyes to the Elite Eight with a 2-1 win over No. 23 Baylor on Sunday in South Bend, Ind.
The Buckeyes advance to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2010 and will take on No. 6 Florida State in Tallahassee next weekend.
The teams matched goals in a five-minute span in the second half and then played a scoreless first overtime, setting up Poremba. She found herself open on the left side of the box and after getting a pass from Amanda Schlueter, slotted a left-footed shot past the Baylor keeper. That was the third goal of her career and undoubtedly the biggest goal of the three.

Schlueter had a goal and an assist in the match, giving her 26 career goals and 24 career assists. She has moved past Emma Sears into 13th on the career goals scored list and is now tied with Kayla Fischer for seventh all-time in career points with 76.
Ohio State controlled much of the match, firing a season-high 34 shots to just 11 for Baylor. The Buckeyes also earned a season-high 15 corner kicks.
In goal, Molly Pritchard made four stops and now has 298 in her career.
The Buckeyes had a couple of nice chances in the opening half as Mia McSweeney, Jadin Bonham and Schlueter all had dangerous attempts. Ohio State outshot Baylor 13-3 in the first half, and Baylor didn’t record a shot on goal.
Schlueter then broke through in the 65th minute. She collected a ball just past midfield, fed a pass to Bonham and then got it back just outside the top of the box. Her right-footed shot beat the Baylor keeper inside the near post, and the Buckeyes were in front 1-0. For Schlueter, the goal was her 10th of the season, matching a career-high from last season.
Baylor then responded just under five minutes later as a cross by Lauren Omholt found the foot of Kia Hayes and her shot trickled in the side of the net.
Neither team was able to find the winner by the end of regulation. Elle Britt had the best chance for the Buckeyes with just under a minute to play as her rifle shot was blocked by the keeper and out for a corner kick. Callie Tumilty had another late chance off the corner but to no avail.
Tumilty had another tremendous opportunity in the first extra session as her long-range shot went over the outstretched arm of the keeper but rang off the crossbar.
McSweeney had another great chance early in the second overtime, but her shot was deflected over the top of the net by the Baylor keeper. The Buckeyes then kept the pressure on, ultimately leading to the goal by Poremba.
