No. 3 Ohio State Wins Game One at No. 5 Minnesota Duluth, 3-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 3 Ohio State women's hockey team won game one of the top five conference series against No. 5 Minnesota Duluth with a 3-1 victory Friday night in Duluth, Minn.
The Short Story
The Buckeyes (12-1-0, 10-1-0 WCHA) recorded a goal in each period and allowed only one goal on 25 shots on goal by the Bulldogs (10-5-0, 6-5-0 WCHA).
Ohio State outshot the Bulldogs, 12-1, in the opening frame and didn't allow a second shot until 5:44 in the second period. Despite being outshot in the second period by Minnesota Duluth, Ohio State's defense continued to hold strong to keep the Bulldogs off the board through the first two periods.
Hailey MacLeod finished the day with 24 saves on 25 shots faced. The Buckeyes were led in points by Joy Dunne and Hilda Svensson with two goals and two points, respectively.

How it Happened
- Ohio State had a number of second chance opportunities in the first 10 minutes of the game. It wasn't until 9:53 in the first period that Maxine Cimoroni found the back of the net, capitalizing off a rebounded shot by Kassidy Carmichael for the 1-0 Ohio State lead.
- Ohio State and Minnesota Duluth each had two power plays in the opening frame, but both team's penalty kill units did not give up a goal on the player advantage. The Buckeyes did not allow a shot on goal on the Bulldogs' first period power play opportunities.
- Joy Dunne scored the first goal of the second period off a rebounded shot by Emma Peschel to double the Buckeye lead at 3:36 into the frame.
- The first shots MacLeod faced in the second period were three in a minute's span. The senior netminder stopped all three and went on to make 14 saves in the frame to continue to keep the Bulldogs off the board.
- Minnesota Duluth scored its first goal in the third period, tallying the first goal of the period at 3:35.
- The Bulldogs pulled goaltender Eve Gascon with 1:33 to play in the game in search of the equalizer, but Dunne iced the game with an empty net goal with 48 seconds left in regulation for the 3-1 Buckeye win.
- MacLeod improves to 8-1-0 on the season with Friday's win.
- Cimoroni's goal was her second in as many games and her third in the last four games.
- Dunne's two goals put her at 65 for her career, which ties for fifth most in program history. She leads the team with 15 goals on the year.
- Ohio State held Minnesota Duluth to just one shot on goal in the first period. It was the fourth time this season the Buckeyes have held an opponent to a single shot on goal in a period.
