COLUMBUS, Ohio - As the Ohio State softball program approaches the conclusion of its fall schedule, the program is set to host its first-ever Hit-A-Thon on Friday evening, Oct. 24, at Buckeye Field. The event, which begins after the Buckeyes' fall game versus Danville Community College, at 4 p.m., is free and open to the public.
Friday's event is designed to provide a fun and unique opportunity to cheer on Ohio State student-athletes and, in turn, support the program. Proceeds raised will support operational costs, new equipment and holistic needs for current and future athletes.
Donations of $300 or more (along with the Designated Players Club members) are invited to an exclusive dinner with the Ohio State softball team and staff following the Hit-a-Thon as a thank you for your generosity.
The goal of the event is to have at least 10 sponsors for each student-athlete – although more than five in welcome and encouraged. Those interested can make an outright donation or pledge an amount of money per foot. Each student-athlete will get 10 swings off of front toss; the longest ball hit will be the distance used to determine the total amount each sponsor will give.
For example: A 25 cents-per-foot donation for a ball hit 200 feet would equal $50. If a ball is hit over the left field fence in the direction of the Schumaker Complex, it will calculated at 220 feet. For every home run hit, 10 additional feet will be added. If someone hits all 10 pitches over the fence, the distance would be 310 feet and at 25 cents per foot, it will equal a donation of $77.50.
