The Schedule Ahead
- The No. 14/15 Ohio State men's hockey opens a four-game homestand with a series against Sacred Heart this weekend.Â
- The teams will meet at 6:30 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday in Value City Arena in Columbus.
- Both games will be streamed through B1G+, with Ohio State Radio carrying the action Saturday and live stats available on OhioStateBuckeyes.com.
- Ohio State is 3-1 on the year, with a sweep of Northern Michigan at home followed by a split (L 2-3, W 4-2) at No. 12 UConn last weekend. Sacred Heart is 2-1, posting a sweep at RIT in an Atlantic Hockey series to open the season before a 3-2 loss at home against Stonehill last Saturday.

Buckeyes vs. Pioneers
- Ohio State and Sacred Heart have met in one series, with a Buckeye sweep in Columbus Nov. 5-6, 2004.Â
- The Buckeyes won 5-1 in game one and 7-1 in game two in the matchup. Â Â
- Sacred Heart was 21-13-5 last season, posting a 16-7-3 record in Atlantic Hockey and reaching the league tournament semifinals.
- Ohio State moved to No. 14 in the USCHO.com rankings this week after three weeks at No. 16. The squad was No. 17 in the first USA Hockey poll, was tied for 16th in week two and is now 15th for the second straight week.Â
- Ohio State is 12-for-13 (.923) on the penalty kill this season. The squad was 6-for-7 at UConn last week, allowing the first power play goal of the season in game two.
- The Buckeyes are 2-for-12 (.167) with the man advantage through four games.Â
- Ohio State is first nationally with a .571 faceoff winning percentage (140-105). Max Montes leads the squad with a 40-22 ledger.Â
- The Buckeyes were outshot for the first time this season last Saturday vs. the Huskies. Ohio State is eighth nationally with 38.5 shots on goal a night and is allowing 26.0 per contest.Â
- Six #ProBucks started the season on NHL rosters, including Mason Lohrei (Boston), Dakota Joshua (Toronto) and Jakub Dobes (Montreal). Three others – Damien Carfagna (Edmonton), Carson Meyer (Buffalo) and Max McCormick (Seattle) – were on the nonroster/injured list with their respective teams.Â
Last Time Out - Buckeyes Split at UConn
- The Buckeyes were 1-1 last weekend against No. 12 UConn. The Huskies won the opener 3-2 in Storrs, Conn., before Ohio State claimed game two, 4-2, in Hartford.Â
- Game One: UConn controlled much of the first period and opened the scoring at 8:15, but a late goal from Max Montes sent the teams into the locker room tied at one. Buckeye goalie Kristoffer Eberly made 13 saves in the stanza. The Huskies scored the only two goals of the second for a 3-1 lead through 40 minutes. Buckeye Riley Thompson tallied early in a power play at 10:18 of the third for a one-goal game, but Ohio State was unable to even the score. Ohio State, which outshot UConn 34-29, was 1-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
- Game Two: There were no goals in the first period and UConn opened the scoring just 35 seconds into the second on a power play goal. Montes tied the game at one at 5:03 and Jake Dunlap put the Buckeyes ahead at 17:06. Ohio State held its one-goal edge until the Huskies tallied at 14:18 of the third. But just 17 seconds later, Thompson moved the Buckeyes back ahead. A late penalty kill by Ohio State helped close out the win and James Hong sealed the victory with an empty net goal. Eberly had 34 saves, including 16 in the third period. The Buckeye penalty kill was 4-for-5 and the power play was 0-for-2.
- Freshman Jake Karabela had two assists in game one at UConn for his first collegiate two-point night.Â
- Rookie Niall Crocker made his collegiate debut and picked up an assist in game two at UConn.Â
- Jake Dunlap's goal last Saturday was his first since Jan. 20, 2024 at Minnesota.
- Riley Thompson has a goal in three of the first four games and a point in all four contests.
- Thompson, Max Montes and Felix Caron lead the Buckeyes with three goals each. Thompson and Montes both scored in each game last weekend.
- Caron is first on the team with five points (3g, 2a).
- Karabela has a team-best three assists.
- Last Saturday, James Hong had a goal and an assist for his third career two-point game and Ryan Gordon had two helpers for his second career two-point night and first game with two assists as a Buckeye.
- Goalie Kristoffer Eberly, a Preseason All-Big Ten Second Team selection, started the first four games. He has a 2.01 goals-against average and .923 save percentage.Â
- Davis Burnside entered the season tied for fourth in goals (37) and tied for eighth in points (80) among current Division I players while standing tied for second in games played (118). He now has 38 goals and 83 points, along with 122 games played.
- Among current NCAA players entering the year, Adam Eisele was tied for third overall with nine gamewinning tallies (and now has 10) and Broten Sabo was tied for third among defensemen in gamewinning goals with four.Â
The Schedule Ahead
- The Buckeyes will take on No. 5 Penn State Oct. 30-31. Both games vs. the Nittany Lions will be at 6:30 p.m.
- Three road series follow in November (at No. 17/16 Wisconsin, at No. 3 Michigan, at Arizona State) before the first half ends with a home series against No. 12 Minnesota Dec. 4-5.Â
