COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State baseball head coach Justin Haire has announced the launch of the 1881 Diamond Club, a reestablished fundraising arm for the program that will aim to connect friends, fans and alumni of Buckeye baseball.
"The 1881 Diamond Club is a fresh start to an important piece of Buckeye baseball history where we can create a platform to both fundraise and connect with our fans, alumni and supporters socially in an effort to build a better program," said Haire. "This chapter of the Diamond Club will ensure that we can provide the best experience for our student-athletes, while building a lasting bond to all the people that have contributed to the foundation of Buckeye baseball."
The 1881 Diamond Club focuses on the three main tenets of Ohio State athletics: The People. The Tradition. The Excellence.
The godfather of Buckeye baseball, the late, great Bill Wells, was the fire-starter for bringing people and resources together around the common theme of seeing the Buckeyes succeed on the diamond at the highest levels. The 1881 Diamond Club will honor that legacy by helping to bring different personalities and resources together to help provide student-athletes with an unparalleled experience while they wear the Scarlet and Gray.
Before it was disbanded, the original Buckeye Diamond Club was not just a fundraising entity, but a connection point of supporters, friends, fans, and alumni. It was an integral part of helping elevate the Ohio State program. The 1881 Diamond Club will look to fill that void and bring Buckeye Nation back together in both fellowship and fundraising, creating a social and supportive connection around the program.
Ohio State baseball has a long and storied history of producing winners, both on and off the field. Champions in athletics, in business, and in life have stamped the legacy of this program. The 1881 Diamond Club will help to ensure that the young men that come through the program have the best opportunity to not only become champions while they are in Columbus, but also after their time at Ohio State.
Every dime that is given to the 1881 Diamond Club will go directly back to the program. In the last year, through generous support, the Buckeyes have been able to make upgrades in the following areas:
The Buckeyes have hit the ground running, but there is much work to still be done. There are small, medium, and large-scale projects on the horizon that will touch every aspect of the program: player development, recruiting, travel, student-athlete experience, fan and gameday experience, and much more.
There are various giving levels associated with the 1881 Diamond Club, which include access to exclusive events, merchandise, tickets and more.
