The Buckeyes fell in five sets in Friday night’s Big Ten opener in Los Angeles.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (7-4, 0-1 B1G) opened conference play with a five-set loss (25-19, 21-25, 20-25, 25-20, 13-15) against No. 20 USC (9-2, 1-0 B1G) in Los Angeles on Friday night.
The first set was close before Ohio State closed on a 9-3 run to capture a 25-19 set win. USC held a narrow lead throughout the second set to even the match with a 25-21 set win. The Trojans gained the match advantage with a 25-20 set win in the third but the Buckeyes won the fourth set by the same margin to force a fifth set. The fifth set featured more back-and-forth play and ended in favor of the Trojans, 15-13.
Emily Londot was the first in the match to reach 10 kills and totaled 15 kills, also adding a career-high 10 blocks and 11 digs for her sixth-consecutive double-double and first career triple-double (first in the country this season among DI non-setters). Olivia Hasbrook was the first in the match to reach 10 digs, finishing with 20 digs. Grace Egan joined Londot with a double-double of her own, finishing with 12 kills and 14 digs. Rylee Rader also recorded a career-high 10 blocks. Emmi Sellman made her collegiate debut and finished with eight kills.
How it Happened
Ohio State scored the first four points of the match but USC used a 5-0 run of its own to take a 7-6 lead. After trailing 9-7, the Buckeyes used four unanswered points to take an 11-9 lead. The Trojans used a 3-0 run to take a 15-14 lead into the media timeout. Ohio State scored six of the next seven points to take a 20-16 lead and scored five of the final six points in the set to earn a 25-19 set win on Emmi Sellman's first career kill.
USC got off to a quick start in the second set, building an early 8-2 lead and forcing an OSU timeout. The Buckeyes trailed by five or six points as the teams traded points. The Trojans won a challenge to gain a 15-10 lead but the Buckeyes responded with the next three points to trim their deficit to two points at 15-13. USC used a 3-0 run to extend its lead to 19-14 and prompt a second Buckeye timeout. In a set of runs, OSU put together three unanswered points to cut its deficit in half (from 22-16 to 22-19) and force a USC timeout. The Buckeyes scored out of the timeout but could get no closer than two as the Trojans won the set by a 25-21 margin.

USC continued its run out of the timeout to take a 13-12 lead before OSU tied the set. The Buckeyes used a 4-0 run to take a 17-14 lead and extended that lead to 20-16. The Trojans responded with the next three points to get within one at 20-19. Ohio State scored the next three points and clinched a 25-20 set win on a block from Rylee Rader and Londot.
