Buckeyes Begin Big Ten Play in Los Angeles

Ohio State will face No. 20 USC and UCLA on the road this weekend to start Big Ten play.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (7-3) begins conference play this weekend with a road trip to visit two of the Big Ten's new members in No. 20 USC and UCLA. The Buckeyes begin with a 10 p.m. ET match at No. 20 USC on Friday that will be broadcast on BTN. Ohio State then faces UCLA on Sunday at 4 p.m. ET in a match broadcast on B1G+.

- Ohio State won both of its matches in a home-and-home series with Bowling Green last weekend to wrap up the non-conference schedule.
- On 9/20 at BG, Grace Egan earned career-highs in kills (17), digs (15), blocks (7) and points (22.0). She recorded a kill on set point in the third set and then had the set-deciding kill (first set) and match-deciding kill (third set) on Sunday.
- Last weekend, Emily Londot averaged 5.00 kills, 3.43 digs and 1.00 blocks per set and extended her streak of double-doubles to five-consecutive matches. She recorded 19 kills on 9/22 vs. BG - the most by any Buckeye in a sweep this season.
- Freshman Olivia Hasbrook averaged a team-high 4.86 digs per set last weekend. This season, Hasbrook leads the Buckeyes with 3.87 digs per set (fifth in the Big Ten). She has totaled at least 10 digs in nine of 10 matches.
- Mia Tuman averaged 11.43 assists, 3.57 digs and 0.86 blocks per set this past weekend. On 9/20, she totaled a career-high 19 digs in her fourth double-double this fall. When she averages 10 assists/set this season, the Buckeyes are 6-0.
- No. 20 USC begins its inaugural Big Ten slate with a 8-2 record and are riding a five-match win streak. The Trojans' only losses are to ranked opponents - then No. 11 Creighton and No. 1 Pitt.
- USC owns wins over Pepperdine (two), Kansas State, Utah State, Ohio, LMU, UNLV and UC San Diego and is 5-1 at home on the season.
- The Trojans boast a balanced offense with four players averaging at least 2.00 kills/set apiece, led by Ally Batenhorst (3.84) and Jadyn Livings (3.29). Mia Tuaniga is averaging 10.39 assists/set, which ranks sixth in the Big Ten. Gala Trubint leads USC's back row defense with 3.53 digs/set.
- Ohio State trails 4-2 in the all-time series against USC and lost the only match that the two teams played in Los Angeles previously.
- The teams played in Los Angeles on Sept. 12, 2008 with then No. 6 USC earning a sweep (25-16, 25-13, 27-25).
- Most recently, then No. 10 Ohio State hosted RV USC on Dec. 2, 2022 in the Covelli Center in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes earned the sweep (25-21, 25-17, 25-16).
- UCLA begins its inaugural Big Ten slate with a 6-3 record after beating California in the non-conference finale last Saturday. The Bruins are slated to open conference play at No. 2 Nebraska on Friday at 8 p.m. ET.
- UCLA owns wins against then No. 14 Georgia Tech, Coastal Carolina, LIU, Prairie View A&M, Texas A&M Commerce and California and has lost to then No. 17 Tennessee, then No. 25 TCU and UC Davis.
- Cheridyn Leverette leads the UCLA offense as one of six Big Ten players averaging more than 4.00 kill/set this season (4.07). Audrey Pak leads the team in assists/set (9.03) and Peyton Dueck in digs/set (3.00).
- Ohio State trails 9-1 in the all-time series against UCLA. The teams have played only once previously in Los Angeles and have not played since Sept. 2, 2011.
- The Bruins hosted the Buckeyes on Dec. 5, 1999 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, winning in three sets (15-10, 15-12, 15-10).
- The Buckeyes' lone win in the series came in a five-set match (1-15, 15-3, 11-15, 15-8, 15-11) on Sept. 6, 1998 in a tournament in Hawaii.
