COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 1 Ohio State will host No. 15 Mississippi State in the super regional round of the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship this Saturday at the Auer Tennis Complex. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals in Stillwater, Okla., next week. First serve is scheduled for noon on Saturday.
Admission and parking are free for this weekend’s match.
- This will be the second meeting all-time between Mississippi State and Ohio State in the NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes beat the Bulldogs in a great 4-3 quarterfinal match in 2018 in Winston-Salem, N.C. Ohio state would advance to the championship match that season.
- Overall, this will be just the fourth meeting between the two programs. MSU won a neutral site matchup in 1991 and then the Buckeyes won at home in 2012 and then again in the tournament in 2018.
- The Buckeyes are 32-1 on the season and the top-overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. They opened with a 4-0 sweep of Cleveland State last Friday and then took down Oklahoma State 4-1 in the second round on Saturday.
- Mississippi State is 19-7 overall on the season. The Bulldogs received the No. 16 seed and swept both Alabama State and Middle Tennessee State in the first two rounds in Starkville last weekend.
- The Buckeyes are looking to advance to the final site for the 18th consecutive season. If they do, it will be the first time they will have played a match in Stillwater, Okla.
- The winner of Saturday’s match will play the winner of the match between No. 8 seed Columbia and No. 9 seed Arizona.
- Ohio State is 37-0 in NCAA Tournament matches at home in Columbus.
- 14 of the 16 seeds in the tournament held serve at home last weekend and advanced to the super regional round.
- Tucker and the Buckeyes have a record of 69-23 in the NCAA Tournament. That’s a .750 winning percentage in NCAA Tournament matches over the last 24 years.
- Five Buckeyes earned a spot in the NCAA singles and doubles championships later this month in Stillwater. Cannon Kingsley, Justin Boulais, JJ Tracy and Jack Anthrop will all compete in the singles draw and Tracy will join Robert Cash in the doubles draw.
- Alexander Bernard is 24-0 in dual singles matches this spring while Anthrop is 24-1 and Tracy is 26-1.
- Tracy has 224 combined wins in his career and is just eight wins from tying Buckeye legend and current assistant coach Mikael Torpegaard. His next doubles wins will be the 100th of his career.
- Boulais is also just two doubles wins away from 100 in his career.
