
Buckeyes Beat #15 Mississippi St. 4-1, Advance to NCAA Quarterfinals

Ohio State has advanced to the NCAA final site for the 18th consecutive year
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Playing at home for the final time this season, No. 1 Ohio State had the fans excited all afternoon as the Buckeyes beat No. 15 Mississippi State 4-1 in the Super Regional round of the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship.
Ohio State has now advanced to the quarterfinals where it will take on Columbia on Thursday in Stillwater, Okla. The Buckeyes have reached the final site for the 18th consecutive season dating back to 2006. That is the most of any team in the country over that time.
Ohio State improves to 33-1 overall on the season and remains a perfect 38-0 at home in NCAA Tournament matches.
Mississippi State jumped out quick in doubles, winning the match on court two 6-1. The feature match on court one, a Top 15 matchup between No. 3 Robert Cash and JJ Tracy and No. 11 Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez was all Buckeyes. Cash and Tracy raced out to a 5-1 lead and ended up being the clinching point, winning 6-2. The doubles win was the 100th of Tracy’s career.
Jack Anthrop and Cannon Kingsley won about 30 seconds earlier by the same 6-2 score on court three.
In singles, Boulais gave the Buckeyes a 2-0 lead as he dominated the match on court one. Playing in his final match in Columbus, he breezed past Nemanja Malesevic 6-1, 6-0 for his 18th win of the year.
Cash was almost equally as dominant on court six as he rolled past Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes 6-3, 6-2 to cap his stellar home career with a win.
After Mississippi State got on the board with a win on court two, Anthrop provided the clinching point as he took down Benito Sanchez Martinez 6-3, 7-6(3) on court four. Tracy won his opening set against Carles Hernandez and then the Bulldog suffered an injury in the second set, delaying the match. Alexander Bernard split the first two sets in his match on court five.
Match times for Thursday’s quarterfinal round will be set soon by the NCAA.
