COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State (20-8), the No. 3 seed in the 2024 MIVA Tournament, travels to take on No. 2 Loyola Chicago (19-9) Thursday at the Worthen Center on the campus of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. The match will be streamed by ESPN+.Â
- Ohio State is the No. 3 seed in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Tournament after finishing third in the regular-season league race with an 11-5 record. Loyola Chicago is the No. 2 seed with a 12-4 conference record.Â
- Ohio State downed No. 6 seed Lewis 3-1 last Saturday to advance to the semifinals. The Ramblers eliminated No. 7 seed Lindenwood 3-0.Â
- This year, both regular-season meetings with Loyola Chicago went five sets with the Ramblers winning both. Loyola Chicago won 3-2 in Chicago Feb. 9 and again by the same score in Columbus March 2. The Buckeyes are 6-3 overall in five-set matches and are 2-0 on neutral courts overall. Â
- In the two meetings vs. the Ramblers this year, Shane Wetzel led Ohio State with 37 kills and a hitting percentage of .329. Jacob Pasteur added 36 kills (.269). Pasteur also had eight aces and 15 digs.Â
- Pasteur and Cole Young were named 2024 First Team All-MIVA by league coaches. Â Wetzel and Michael Wright earned second team honors. There have been 139 Ohio State First Team All-MIVA selections all time.Â
- Pasteur has been named to the league first team three times and owns a MIVA Player of the Year honor (2023). A total of 18 Buckeyes have earned first team honors three or more times. This is the second first team honor for Young. He is one of 38 Buckeyes with two or more first team honors. Wetzel has earned second team honors twice and was the league freshman of the year in 2023. Wright, the 2023 MIVA Tournament Most Outstanding Player, earns his first All-MIVA honor.Â
- Young reached 100 blocks this season the last time out vs. the Flyers with a total of five. He has 104 this year and 251 for his career. Â
- Ohio State owns a 43-29 record over Loyola-Chicago all-time. The Buckeyes are 1-2 in neutral-site meetings against the Ramblers. Ohio State is 7-5 in MIVA tournament play against Loyola Chicago with a 1-2 record on neutral courts and a 2-4 record in the MIVA semifinals.
