Buckeyes and Badgers close out three-game series tomorrow afternoon
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team fought back from an early four-run deficit, but Wisconsin plated six runs in the fifth inning and won the second game of this weekend's series 10-5 on Saturday at the Goodman Softball Complex in Madison, Wisc.
The Buckeyes (20-17, 2-9) and Badgers (15-22, 4-7) close out this weekend's series tomorrow beginning at 2 p.m. The game will be streamed live on BTN+.
The Short Story
Wisconsin used a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning and sac fly in the third inning to build a 4-0 lead, but Ohio State counted with two runs in the fourth inning and a Sam Hackenbracht RBI triple in the fifth to close the gap to 4-3.
The Badgers, however, had three extra base hits in the bottom of the fifth inning as part of their six-run frame. Ohio State countered with a two-run home run from Hackenbracht in the seventh to make the score 10-5, but that's as close as it would get.
Emily Ruck got the start in the circle and pitched a total of 4.1 innings while allowing three earned runs. Julia Miller also saw 0.2 innings worth of action and Lexi Paulsen pitched one inning and struck out two.
How The Runs Were Scored
- Emmy Wells' three run home run to center field opened the scoring on Saturday afternoon, and that was followed two innings later by a sac fly to push Wisconsin's lead to 4-0.
- Hannah Church picked up an RBI in the top of the fourth inning for Ohio State and a second run came across the plate when a double steal was executed that resulted in Kirsten Eppele stealing home.
- Hackenbracht's RBI triple off the left field wall scored Kami Kortokrax to make the score 4-3 in the top of the fifth, but Wisconsin's six-run bottom half of the inning saw the Badgers hit a two-run home run and also score on an RBI triple and single, respectively.
- Hackenbracht finished her 2-for-4 day at the plate in the top of the seventh inning by hitting her seventh home run of the season and 45th of her career.
Buckeye This and That
- Six of Ohio State's nine starters recorded a hit against three different Wisconsin pitchers.
- Eppele reached base in all three of her plate appearances, getting two hits while also walking once.
- The Buckeyes have left 17 runners on base over the first two games of the series.
