
No. 9 Ohio State Wraps Up Road MIVA Season With Loss to Lions

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- No. 9 Ohio State (17-8, 10-5) completed the road portion of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association schedule with after a 3-1 loss at Lindenwood (12-11, 7-7) Saturday in St. Charles, Missouri. Â

The Lions celebrated Senior Night before the match at Hyland Arena.

Ohio State completed a four-match road stretch with the game against the Lions. Â

Ohio State fell by scores of 23-25, 23-25, 25-20, 21-25.

Shane Wetzel led Ohio State with 14 kills. He also had seven digs. Tommy Poole led both teams with 13 digs. Noah Platfoot (19) and starter Michael Wright (19) combined for 38 assists.

Set 1
Lindenwood used a 5-0 run to build an early 8-5 lead. Ohio State followed with a 3-1 run to make it 10-9 Lions. Lindenwood got its lead to 15-11 at the media timeout. The Buckeyes then started to mount a comeback after the Lions went up 18-14. Ohio State tied it at 21-all leading to a Lindenwood timeout. The Buckeyes then called timeout after the Lions scored twice for a 23-21 advantage. Ohio State called another timeout down 24-22. Shane Wetzel got the kill out of the break before the Lions called their final timeout up 24-23. Lindenwood then got the win on an Ohio State error, 25-23. Wetzel had four kills in the set to lead the Buckeyes.

The Lions again got out to an early lead at 3-0. Lindenwood built a 9-5 lead before a 3-1 Ohio State run cut it to 10-8 Lions. The Buckeyes tied it at 11-all on a big combo block by Cole Young and Noah Platfoot. Ohio State took the lead at 12-11 after a Lindenwood error. Young then capped a 5-0 Buckeyes run with a kill for a 13-11 lead. The Lions called timeout and regained the lead with a pair of kills around an Ohio State error. The Buckeyes got the lead back at 15-14 on a Young kill and Lions error. Lindenwood used a 3-0 run to go back on top at 17-15 before an Ohio State timeout. The Buckeyes called timeout with the Lions up 22-19. Ohio State went on a 4-1 run to get to within one at 24-23 Lindenwood before Lions timeout. Lindenwood then took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-23 win. Young and Wetzel led the Buckeyes with seven kills over the first two sets. Â

The Buckeyes got out to a 4-2 lead on a Wetzel kill. Young, Wetzel and Teune kills and a Lions error led to a Lindenwood timeout after a 6-1 Ohio State run for an 8-3 lead. Jacob Pasteur posted a couple kills while the Buckeye increased the lead to 13-9. Teune made it 15-10 with a kill as Ohio State kept the pressure on the Lions. A Wetzel ace upped the lead to 17-12. The Buckeyes maintained its cushion on a kill by Wetzel to make it 22-17. Lindenwood then called timeout down 23-17 after a Lions error. A Justin Howard kill followed by another by Wetzel gave Ohio State a 25-20 win. Wetzel took the team lead with his 11th kill of the match. Â

A Young service ace put Ohio State up 5-2 early in the fourth. The Lions scored the next four points to take a 6-5 lead. A 3-1 run by the Lions put Lindenwood up 10-8. Ohio State called timeout while trailing 11-8 after a 3-0 run by the Lions. Lindenwood, behind three-consecutive kills, took a 15-10 lead. The advantage increased to 17-11 after 5-1 Lions run. Ohio State called timeout down 20-16 but Lindenwood never gave up the lead in the 25-21 win for the 3-1 match victory. Â
