COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 11 Ohio State women's tennis team dropped its Big Ten opener to No. 2 Michigan, 4-1, Friday evening in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.

The Wolverines (13-3, 1-0 B1G) took the doubles point for the 1-0 lead and claimed the first singles match for a 2-0 advantage. Buckeye freshman Luciana Perry put Ohio State on the board but Michigan won the next match for a 3-1 lead. The final three matches on court were all in a third set. On court five Michigan was able to pull away to clinch the team win. The remaining two matches were abandoned on serve in the third set.

Ohio State will then travel for two matches next weekend, taking on Indiana March 23 and Purdue March 24. The squad will return to Columbus to host Maryland at 5 p.m. March 29 and Rutgers at 11 a.m. March 31. Admission and parking are free for all regular season matches in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center and Auer Tennis Complex.

How it Happened

A close doubles point, with 6-4 scores on courts three and one, went to Michigan.
The Wolverines' No. 5-ranked Kari Miller extended the lead to 2-0 with a straight set win on court one over No. 12 Irina Cantos Siemers.
Buckeye Luciana Perry, ranked 55th, put the Buckeyes on the board, as she won 6-4, 6-4 over No. 18 Julia Fliegner on court two. In both sets the score was 4-all and the Buckeye rookie won the final two games.
A 7-5, 6-3 win by No. 61 Lily Jones on court six over Audrey Spencer moved the Wolverines to a 3-1 lead.
The remaining matches were in a third set.
The team match was decided on court five, as Piper Charney rallied to defeat Teah Chavez, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, and clinch the fourth point for the Wolverines.
The last two matches were abandoned. On court three Sydni Ratliff was on serve 4-4 vs. No. 44 Gala Mesochoritou and on court four Shelly Bereznyak was on serve 4-5 vs. No. 81 Jaedan Brown.
