No. 6 Ohio State Beats Lindenwood 3-1 in MIVA Opener

The Buckeyes are the defending MIVA regular-season and tournament champion.
Against the Lions, Ohio State won by scores of 30-32, 25-20, 25-17 and 25-18.
Ohio State was led by four in double figures in kills, Daniel Hurley (12), Cole Young (11), Jacob Pasteur (10) and Ben Putnam (10)
Michael Wright led the Buckeyes with 38 assists while Pasteur was the team leader in digs with seven.
Set 1
The first 20 points of the set were split evenly at 10-all before Lindenwood went on a 4-0 run to take a 14-10 lead. Ohio State called a timeout and scored the next point on a Daniel Hurley kill. The teams began to trade points until the Lions scored back-to-back points for a 17-12 lead. The Buckeyes called their final timeout down 19-13 and responded with a 3-0 run to cut the lead to 19-16. Ohio State then went on 3-1 run to make it 20-19 Lions. Lindenwood called timeout before the Buckeyes tied it at 21-all on a Hurley kill. The teams went back-and-forth to send the set to overtime at 24-all. A Cole Young kill tied it at 25-all and a Pasteur smash tied it at 26. Another Pasteur effort evened it at 27-all. Ohio State took a 30-29 lead before the Lions scored the next three to win 32-30. The Buckeyes hit .552 in the set with Pasteur leading with five kills.
Set 2
The Buckeyes took a 6-4 lead after a Michael Wright kill and a Lions error. The set went to 11-all before a 4-1 Ohio State run made it 15-12 Buckeyes. A Hurley kill kept the lead at three, 18-15. The teams traded service errors to make it 20-17 Buckeyes. Lindenwood called timeout after a Lions error put Ohio State up 22-19. The Buckeyes reached set point, 24-20, on a Justin Howard kill before a Lindenwood timeout. Hurley then got Ohio State the win with a kill (25-20). The Buckeyes hit .417 for the set with Pasteur improving his kill total to eight.

Set 3
The Buckeyes got out to a 7-4 lead on consecutive Lindenwood errors. Lindenwood called timeout after the Buckeyes took a 12-7 lead on a Young kill and Lions error. A Howard kill from the middle and a Wright ace kept Ohio State's advantage at 15-10. A Hurley blast made it 17-11 Buckeyes before a Pasteur ace led to another Lindenwood timeout with Ohio State up 18-11. A Putnam kill put Ohio State up 20-12. Lindenwood scored the next three before a Lions error made it 21-15. An Ohio State block led to set point, 24-17. The Buckeyes then went up 2-1 in the match after a Lions error gave the Buckeyes a 25-17 win. The Buckeyes hit .200 while Lindenwood connected at a .080 rate in the third. Hurley led Ohio State with 10 kills after three.

Set 4
After a 5-all tie, the Buckeyes went up 10-7. Lindenwood scored the next three to make it 10-all. Ohio State responded with a 3-0 run to lead 13-10. The Lions called timeout and scored the next two points before a Lions service error made it 14-12 Buckeyes. A Howard/Putnam block put the Buckeyes up 17-14. Lindenwood called timeout, its final of the set, after a Young kill put Ohio State up 19-15. Three more Young kills put Ohio State up 22-16. Ohio State went to set and match point on another Young kill from the middle (24-17). A Lions error ended the match with a 25-18 set win and a 3-1 win for the Buckeyes.
