
No. 13 Buckeyes Post 4-0 Victory over No. 17 Duke

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 13 Ohio State women's tennis team notched a third straight 4-0 win, as it topped No. 17-ranked Duke Friday afternoon in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.

The Buckeyes, now 4-1 this season, won the doubles point against the Blue Devils for the 1-0 lead. Irina Cantos Siemers, Shelly Bereznyak and Sydni Ratliff all posted straight-set wins en route to the win. Â

The victory moved head coach Melissa Schaub into a tie for the all-time wins lead among Buckeye women's tennis coaches with 224. Cantos Siemers is now tied with Miho Kowase for first all-time in career singles victories with 112.

Ohio State will return to the courts Sunday at 2 p.m. to take on No. 13 UCLA. Admission and parking are free.

How it Happened
- The court one duo of Sydni Ratliff and Luciana Perry gave the Buckeyes the early edge in doubles, winning 6-3 over Karolina Berankova and Shavit Kimchi.
- Ohio State clinched the doubles point when Irina Cantos Siemers and Audrey Spencer topped Emma Jackson and Ellie Coleman, 6-4. The Buckeyes won the final three games for the victory.
- The Buckeyes took four of the six first sets to open singles.
- No. 15-ranked Cantos Siemers moved into a tie for the all-time singles win mark in Buckeye history with a straight set victory on court one. She topped Shavit Kimchi, 6-2, 6-1. Cantos Siemers is now a team-best 4-0 in dual matches this spring.
- Shelly Bereznyak followed, as she downed Iuliia Bryzgalova on court five, 6-4, 6-3. In the second set, the Buckeye broke for a 5-3 lead and closed it out.
- Ratliff clinched Ohio State's win, downing No. 52-ranked Katie Codd, 6-4, 6-4, on court three. The Buckeye jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the first set. In the second, she broke for a 5-4 edge and then clinched the victory.
- The remaining matches were abandoned. Freshmen Perry and Chavez were both in a third set after dropping set one and winning the second. Spencer was in a third set after posting a shutout in the first but falling in set two. Â
